India: Defeat of 'political perversity' in Rajasthan: Sena

Mumbai, Aug 12 (PTI) The Shiv Sena on Wednesday said failure of 'Operation Lotus' in Rajasthan was the defeat of "political perversity", days after a meeting between Congress leaders Sachin Pilot and Rahul Gandhi signalled an amicable resolution of the Rajasthan political crisis.

An editorial in Shiv Sena mouthpiece 'Saamana' said Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot performed "an operation on 'Operation Lotus' and taught the BJP a lesson".

India: 77 new butterfly species found in Matheran: BNHS

Mumbai, Aug 10 (PTI) As many as 77 new species of butterflies have been found in the ecologically sensitive forest of Matheran hill station near Mumbai during a study conducted there over the last eight years, according to the Bombay Natural History Society.

With this, the total number of butterfly species in the Matheran forest has now gone up to 140, city-based Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) scientist Mandar Sawant said.

India: COVID-19 situation in Maha serious: Fadnavis

Panaji, Aug 10 (PTI) Maharashtra BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said the COVID-19 situation in his state was serious and it accounted for 42 per cent of all deaths nationwide due to the infection.

Fadnavis, leader of opposition in the Assembly in the neighbouring state, was in Goa to pay a courtesy visit to Chief Minister and party colleague Pramod Sawant.

Speaking to reporters here, Fadnavis said the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra must increase testing and set up more isolation facilities.

India: Bhojpuri actress Anupama Pathak commits suicide

Mumbai, Aug 7 (PTI) Bhojpuri film actress Anupama Pathak allegedly committed suicide at her home in Mira Road area of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, police said on Friday.

Pathak, 40, was found hanging at her rented flat in Mhada Colony on Sunday, police said.

Hailing from Purnea district in Bihar, she had moved to Mumbai and worked in Bhojpuri films and TV shows.

India: HC grants bail to Israeli criminal Atala in assault case

Panaji, Aug 7 (PTI) The Goa bench of the Bombay High Court has granted bail to Israeli national Yaniv Benaim alias Atala in connection with the assault case registered against him.

A single-judge bench of Justice Nutan Sardesai on Thursday granted bail to Atala after asking him to furnish a bond of Rs 50,000 and surety.

India: RBI to bring start-ups under priority sector lending category

Mumbai, Aug 6 (PTI) The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Thursday decided to broaden the scope of Priority Sector Lending (PSL) by including start-ups and enhancing borrowing limits for renewable energy sectors.

The central bank would also increase the targets for lending to 'small and marginal farmers' and 'weaker sections' under the PSL.

India: TV actor Samir Sharma found hanging in Mumbai home

Mumbai, Aug 6 (PTI) Television actor Samir Sharma, best known for his roles in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Left Right Left, was found dead in his home in suburban Malad where he lived alone, police said on Thursday.

The 44-year-old was found hanging from the fan of the kitchen on Wednesday night, police officials said. He may have been dead for two days before he was found, they said.

India: RBI leaves benchmark lending rate unchanged

Mumbai, Aug 6 (PTI) The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Thursday opted for a status quo and left interest rates unchanged, but maintained an accommodative stance, implying more rate cuts in future if the need arises to support the economy hit by the COVID-19 crisis

The benchmark repurchase (repo) rate has been left unchanged at 4 per cent, Governor Shaktikanta Das said while announcing the decisions taken by the central bank's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC)

India: Man held for raping, robbing woman in Pune

Pune, Aug 4 (PTI) A 53-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping and robbing a woman of valuables worth over Rs 1 lakh in Maharashtra's Pune city, police said on Tuesday.

The police on Monday nabbed Dashrath Bansode and booked him under sections 376 (rape) and 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code, an official from Mundhawa police station said.

The incident took place on Sunday evening, when the 45-year-old victim was waiting at a bus stop near Fatima Nagar on Pune-Solapur Highway, he said.

Yes Bank takes possession of Anil Ambani's group HQ in Mumbai for failure to repay dues

Mumbai, Jul 30 (PTI) Yes Bank has taken over the headquarter of Anil Ambani's group in surburban Santacruz for failure to repay dues worth Rs 2,892 crore.

The private sector lender has also taken possession of two flats in South Mumbai for the non-payment of dues by Reliance Infrastructure, according to a notice published by Yes Bank in a newspaper on Wednesday.
