Imphal, Mar 30 (PTI) The Manipur government issued a circular to the Deputy Commissioners of districts bordering Myanmar not to open camps to provide food and shelter to refugees fleeing the neighbouring country after the coup but withdrew it three days later to avoid potential public anger.

In the advisory issued to the DCs of Chandel, Tengoupal, Kamjong, Ukhrul and Churachandpur on March 26, Special Secretary (Home) H Gyan Prakash also asked them to stop Aadhaar enrolment exercise.

Agartala, Jan 30 (PTI) A 37-year-old BJP worker was shot dead by miscreants at his residence in Tripura's Dhalai district on Saturday, police said.

Three persons were arrested in this connection, they said.

A group of gunmen entered the house of Kripa Ranjan Chakma in Jalachandra Karbari Para area and opened fire at him, a senior officer said.

BJP district committee member Ashis Bhattacharjee, local MLA Shambhulal Chakma, the saffron party Janajati Morcha district president Hangsa Kumar visited his house and condoled the death.

Agartala, Jan 17 (PTI) Tripura Congress chief Pijush Kanti Biswas on Sunday alleged he was attacked by "BJP workers" in Sipahijala district, a charge denied by the ruling party.

The Congress called a state-wide dawn-to-dusk bandh in protest against the alleged attempt on the life of the party's state chief.

Biswas said the incident took place in Bishalgarh when he went there to attend a meeting in the morning.

Agartala, Dec 23 (PTI) Chief Justice of India Sharad Arvind Bobde on Wednesday said it is the hallmark of every great institution and judges that they are "keener on justice and not merely on law".

Justice Bobde, who inaugurated an e-Sewa Kendra at the High Court of Tripura, appealed to judges to be more attentive towards justice.

"It's the hallmark of every great institution and judges that they are keener on justice and not merely on law," he said.

Agartala, Oct 3 (PTI) The opposition CPI(M) in Tripura on Saturday alleged that law and order has collapsed in the state ever since the BJP-IPFT combine came to power, and sought the DGP's intervention to improve the situation.

A three-member delegation of CPI(M) led by party secretary Goutam Das met the DGP, Rajib Singh here and submitted a memorandum, detailing incidents of attacks on the opposition party workers "carried out by goons of the BJP and IPFT".

Agartala, May 11 (PTI) Two more Border Security Force (BSF) jawans tested positive for coronavirus in Tripura on Monday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 154, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said.

"In a massive COVID19 test among 750 civilian and BSF in Dhalai dist today, 2 BSF officials were found COVID-19 positive. All patients are responding well to the treatment.

With the blessings of Mata Tripurasundari soon our state will be corona free," Deb tweeted.

Agartala, May 4 (PTI) Twenty-two people linked to a Border Security Force battalion in Dhalai district tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Wednesday, taking the number of cases in Tripura to 64, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said.

The total active cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) rose to 62 in the state after 22 people from the 138th battalion at Ambassa tested positive.

Agartala, Mar 11 (PTI) Alleging that the violence in Delhi was a "pre-planned conspiracy", former Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar started a drive to raise funds for those affected by the clashes.

Urging people to help the riot survivors, Sarkar raised questions on the role of the administration to tackle the violence that killed at least 53 people.

Agartala, Feb 22 (PTI) Alleging that Home Minister Amit Shah was working like the "hate minister" of the country, CPI(M) politburo member Brinda Karat on Saturday said the BJP-led central government was "fulfilling its agenda of communal polarisation".

Karat, addressing the inaugural session of the 22nd central conference of CPI(M)'s tribal wing, slammed Shah for his comments on the Shaheen Bagh protesters during campaigning for the Delhi assembly polls.

Agartala, Dec 10 (PTI) Internet services have been suspended in the entire Tripura for 48 hours from 2 pm on Tuesday in view of the ongoing protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, an official notification said.

The order also prohibits SMS messages of all mobile service providers.

The step has been taken to prevent mischief mongers from spreading rumours.

The state Home department's notification has been signed by A K Bhattacharya, Additional Secretary, Government of Tripura.
