India: Naxals torch road-building equipment in Gadchiroli

Mumbai, May 13 (PTI) Naxals torched a water tanker and two other road construction machines at a site of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in Etapalli in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district, police said Monday.

The incident, at a road-construction site between Emli and Mangutha, took place Sunday night, a Burgi police station official said, adding that a group of around 40 uniformed- Maoists were involved.

India: Seven-yr-old allegedly raped, killed in UP

Lakhimpur Kheri, May 13 (UP) A seven-year-old girl was killed after allegedly being raped Monday in a village here, police said.

The body of the victim was recovered in the morning and a case was registered against a man,

Deputy Superindent of Police (DSP) Vijay Anand told reporters.

The DSP said the accused was arrested and confessed to committing the crime.

He added the body has been sent for post-mortem and an investigation was on.

Canning/Kolkata, May 13 (PTI) The slugfest between BJP and Trinamool Congress in West Bengal turned acrimonius Monday ahead of the ultimate phase of Lok Sabha polls over BJP president Amit Shah's "Kangal Bangla" remark and TMC leader Derek O'Brien hitting back calling him "puke-worthy" and a "low-life".

Shah had been denied permission to land his chopper and hold a meeting at Baruipur under Jadavpur constituency during the day forcing him to call off his programme.

India: 116 iron nails, wire removed from man's stomach

Kota (Raj), May 14 (PTI) Doctors at the Bundi government hospital removed 116 iron nails, a long wire and an iron pellet from the stomach of a 42-year-old man here.

Dr Anil Saini, a surgeon at the hospital, said most nails measured 6.5 cm and it took an hour-and-a-half to remove the objects from the man's body.

"I was stunned after noticing the objects in his X-ray report after which I recommended for a CT scan. That, too, confirmed the same after which the patient was operated upon on Monday, said Dr Saini.

India: Police constable's wife raped in Rajasthan

Jaipur, May 14 (PTI) A police constable's wife was allegedly raped by a man in Dungarpur district of Rajasthan, police said Tuesday.

The woman alleged that the accused Suresh clicked objectionable pictures of her and was blackmailing and raping her for the last four months, SHO of Kotwali Police Station Chandman said.

The woman and the accused were known to each other.

A case was lodged on Monday and a hunt launched for the accused.

Youth jumps to death after tiff with wife

Kanpur: One youth committed suicide by jumping from the fourth floor of a house in Chakeri area here on Monday night. He was disturbed and restless following his altercation with the wife on some matter in the evening of Monday. 

His jump brought loud voice so the neighbors rushed to save him. They even took him to the hospital but the doctors declared him brought dead. 

According to the police, Santosh Nishad (36) r/o Safipur First was employed at a factory. His altercation with the wife Anita led her to go to her parents' house in Chhabiley Purwa.

India: Woman raped at hospital in Mumbai

Mumbai, May 14 (PTI) A 37-year-old woman was allegedly raped at a civic-run hospital here by a man on the pretext of helping her fill a fee concession form, a police official said on Tuesday.

The accused, Deepak Annappa Kunchukurve, 31, a resident of Dharavi area here, has been arrested, he said.

The alleged incident took place last Friday on the fifth floor of the Sion Hospital building, he said.

India favourite to win the World Cup: Azharuddin

Hyderabad, May 14 (PTI) Former skipper Mohammad Azharuddin described India as the favourites to lift the ODI World Cup, saying the team has very good bowlers who can win the quadrennial event, which gets underway in England on May 30.

"We have a very good chance. We have a very good team. We have very good bowlers. Lot of people are saying if the wickets are favouring the bowlers, we will find it difficult. But even our bowlers can also get the opposition out. We have got world-class bowlers," Azharuddin, who scored 6215 runs in 99 Tests and 9378 runs in 334 ODIs, said.

India: IndiGo announces 3-day summer sale

New Delhi, May 14 (PTI) IndiGo on Tuesday announced a three-day summer sale till May 16 across its network that connects 53 domestic and 17 international destinations.

Passengers can avail the all-inclusive fares starting at Rs 999 for travel between May 29-September 28 on domestic and international routes, the airline said in a statement.

Indian Polls: EC team conducts searches at Tuticorin hotel

Tuticorin(TN), May 14 (PTI) Raids were carried out at a hotel, where DMK Chief M K Stalin is scheduled to stay near here Tuesday, following reports of alleged money distribution to voters in the Ottapidaram assembly constituency, district officials said.

Election Commission's flying squad searched cars of DMK functionaries apart from hotel rooms during the raid, which continued for one hour, they said.

The Ottapidaram consituency in-charge K N Nehru was also staying in the same hotel.
