Indian, Turkish officials hold talks on bilateral ties

CHANDIGARH, 9 May 2019; AA: Indian and Turkish officials met Wednesday in the capital, New Delhi, and discussed a wide range of topics.

Turkey’s Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Sedat Onal had a meeting with Gitesh A Sarma, Secretary (West) under the institutional mechanism of Foreign Office Consultations, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement.

India: 55-year-old property dealer murdered in Naubasta

Kanpur: One old person was murdered in a house of Raman Vihar under Naubasta police station here on Thursday morning. On getting information the police and the forensic team reached the spot. The Senior Superintendent of Police Anant Dev Tiwari and SP (South) Raveena Tyagi were also present on the spot.  Evidence was collected and cause of crime was also tried to find out. 

55-year-old property dealer Prahlad r/o Naubasta Lalpur was alone at his house as the wife Siyapyari was away at Gauriya village in Bakewar Fatehpur to attend uncle's terahwi. He was issueless. 

Indian Economy in 'disastrous phase of slowdown': Chidambaram

New Delhi, May 8 (PTI) Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram Wednesday said macro economic indicators confirm that the Indian economy has entered a "disastrous phase of slowdown" and criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for their failures.

He also accused Jaitley of perfecting the art of "concealing" data and projecting "doctored" information.

Indo-French navies begin sea phase of 'Varuna' exercise

Panaji, May 8 (PTI) The sea phase of the Indo-French naval exercise 'Varuna' began on Wednesday with ships from the European country sailing out of the Goa harbour to participate in it, the Indian Navy said.

This year's edition of the Indo-French naval exercise currently underway off the Goa coast is the largest ever undertaken by the two navies and represents the climax of the strengthened maritime co-operation between India and France, a senior official earlier said.

India: Omar seeks action in journalists bribery case

Srinagar, May 8 (PTI) National Conference leader Omar Abdullah Wednesday said action must be taken in the alleged bribery of journalists by BJP leaders in Leh in Jammu and Kashmir.

"In light of the CCTV footage purported to show BJP leaders attempting to bribe journalists in Leh, I'm retweeting my original tweet with the letter of complaint by the Press Club Leh. Action must follow," Abdullah said in a tweet.

India: Will bring petrol and diesel within ambit of GST: Rahul

New Delhi, May 8 (PTI) Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday promised that if his party is voted to power it will bring petrol and diesel within the ambit of the GST and will try and reduce rising prices.

He said the Congress believes that rising prices have put a heavy burden on the life of the common man.

"To reduce this burden, the Congress party will bring petrol and diesel within the ambit of the GST and will try and reduce the increasing prices," Gandhi said in a Facebook post.

India: 3 arrested in Alwar gang rape case

Alwar, May 8 (PTI) Three of the five people were arrested in connection with the Alwar gang rape case, police said Wednesday.

Fourteen police teams were pressed into service to nab the other two accused, IG Jaipur S Segathir said.

Those arrested were identified as Indraraj Gurjar, Ashok and Mukesh, he said, adding that Mukesh had also recorded the crime and uploaded the video on social media.

India: Woman gang-raped in Rajasthan

Jaipur, May 8 (PTI) A 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped by two men in Rajasthan's Nagaur district, police said.

The woman had visited a kiosk in March for submitting an application for LPG gas connection. A few days ago, the accused took her to Kuchaman city on the pretext of gas connection-related work. The accused served her intoxicated drink and allgedly gang-raped her. They also recorded a video of the crime, an officer said.
