India: Air pollution: NGT slaps 25 crore fine on Delhi govt

New Delhi, Dec 3 (PTI) The National Green Tribunal Monday asked the Delhi government to deposit Rs 25 crore with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) for their failure to curb the problem of pollution in the city.

A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel also asked the AAP government to furnish a performance guarantee of Rs 25 crore with the apex pollution monitoring body to ensure that there is no further lapse in this regard.

India: Court discharges Kejriwal, 6 others in rioting case

New Delhi, Dec 3 (PTI) A Delhi court on Monday discharged Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and six others in a case of alleged rioting in front of the house of the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2012.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal passed the order.

According to the prosecution, on August 26, 2012, Kejriwal and others had held a demonstration against coal scam in front of Singh's house and in order to stop them, water cannons were used following which the volunteers became violent.

India: AAP claims names of 30 lakh voters deleted in Delhi

New Delhi, Dec 3 (PTI) Reiterating its allegation of mass deletion of names of voters in Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party said on Monday it will soon start a "door-to-door" programme to urge people to ensure that their names, if deleted, are added to the voters' list.

AAP leader Atishi claimed the names of nearly 30 lakh voters were deleted and a majority of them belonged to traders, minorities and Purvanchali communities settled in the city. "AAP workers will contact people door to door to get their names added in the voters' list," she said.

India: Cong slams Yogi over Bulandshahr violence

New Delhi, Dec 2 (PTI) The Congress on Monday hit out at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over violence in Buland shahr, saying it was the worst kind of failure of law and order and he should set his own house in order before "gallivanting" around the country for campaigning in elections.

A police inspector and a youth were killed on Monday as a mob protesting over illegal cow slaughter went on a rampage torching a police post and clashing with police, which opened fire.

India: Sidhu to file defamation case against channel

Jaipur, Dec 3 (PTI) Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu said Monday he would file a defamation case against a television channel for allegedly running a fake video about slogans purportedly in support of Pakistan during his rally in Rajasthan's Alwar district two days ago.

He said the slogans were of 'jo bole so nihaal' and was shown as in favour of Pakistan in the video.

"I am going to file a defamation case after consulting with my lawyer. I cannot compromise with the name I have earned," he told reporters at the Congress office here.

India: Owaisi brothers hit back at Adityanath over 'Nizam' barb

Hyderabad, Dec 3 (PTI) Hitting back at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's "Nizam" barb at him, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has said India is his father's country and no one is running away.

Addressing a poll rally here Sunday night, he also said Adityanath was speaking the language of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and he was ignorant about history.

India: Noida admin invokes NSA against notorious criminal

Noida (UP), Dec 3 (PTI) The Gautam Buddh Nagar administration Monday invoked the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against a notorious criminal involved in a sensational killing in November last year, officials said.

Accused Arun Yadav, 30, who is currently in jail, has been deemed as a threat to security and public order, District Magistrate Brajesh Naraian Singh told reporters in presence of Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Pal Sharma.
