Canada ‘not fazed’ at being left out of NAFTA talks

1 Auig 2018; AA; Canada on Tuesday put a positive spin at being left out of North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) talks, saying it is a good sign that the U.S. and Mexico are trying to work out differences between themselves.

The U.S. excluded Canada at NAFTA renegotiation meetings later this week with Mexico in Washington.

Family says Toronto gunman had mental issues

24 July 2018; AFP; The 29-year-old man who opened fire on restaurant goers and pedestrians on a Toronto street overnight, killing two people and wounding 13, had "severe" mental health issues, his family said Monday.

Police identified the gunman as Faisal Hussain of Toronto. He was found dead near the scene of the shooting after an exchange of gunfire with police.

Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders said an 18-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl were killed in the shooting rampage and 13 people -- aged 10 to 59 -- wounded, some seriously.

Indian man shot dead in Canada, two suspects arrested

Toronto, Jul 19 (PTI) A 27-year-old Indian man was shot dead by four assailants in his home in Canada and police have arrested two of the suspects and launched a manhunt for the absconding men.

Palwinder Singh was a truck driver and had immigrated to Canada in 2009.

Singh was killed after gunfire erupted at his home in Donwoods Court in the area of Countryside Drive and Airport Road in Brampton city on Tuesday, Peel Regional Police said.

The motive of the crime is still unclear.

Tit for tat tariff by Canada

Canadian government has finalised $12.6 billion tariffs on US goods. Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland announced these tariffs on Friday, which will take effect from July 1.

Freeland said that the money will be spend to support companies and workers hurt by U.S. levies on Canadian steel and aluminum exports.

Canadians call for US product boycott

Seventy percent of Canadians say they will start looking for ways to avoid buying U.S.-made goods in a threat to ratchet up a trade dispute between Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and U.S. President Donald Trump, an Ipsos Poll showed on Friday.

The poll also found a majority of Americans and Canadians are united in support of Trudeau and opposition to Trump in their countries’ stand-off over the renegotiation of the 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
