India: Security forces to have training module on Taliban

New Delhi, Sep 12 (PTI) Border forces and armed police units deployed in the counter-terrorism grid have been directed by the central security establishment to prepare and administer a new training module on the Taliban and its modus operandi to the troops in view of the "emerging" scenario in Afghanistan.

New Delhi, Sep 11 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday attacked the BJP-led Centre, saying they sold everything in seven years that the Congress-led governments set up in 70 years.

Addressing the national executive of the Congress-affiliated National Students' Union of India (NSUI), he said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was dubbed a weak PM at the time of the Mumbai terror attacks but the media did not question Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the time of Pulwama attacks.

India: Rahul attacks govt over 'job losses' on Ford manufacturing clouser

New Delhi, Sep 12 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Sunday attacked the government over the issue of employment, saying the difference between a week off and a working day has ended under this dispensation as "there are no jobs".

Taking to Twitter, Gandhi tagged a media report on US auto major Ford deciding to stop vehicle manufacturing in India which quoted an industry insider as saying that over 4,000 small firms could shut down.

India: Arvind Kejriwal re-elected as AAP national convenor

New Delhi, Sep 12 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was re-elected as the national convenor of the AAP at the national executive meeting of the party on Sunday, according to sources.

Party leaders Pankaj Gupta and N D Gupta were elected as secretary and party treasurer, respectively.

The national council of the Aam Aadmi Party had elected a new 34-member executive body, which included Kejriwal, on Saturday.

India: Magistrate not competent authority to extend time to complete investigation in UAPA cases: SC

New Delhi, Sep 10 (PTI) A magistrate would not be the competent authority for extension of time to complete investigation in cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Supreme Court has said.

A bench headed by Justice U U Lalit said the only competent authority to consider such request would be the Special Courts set up under National Investigation Agency Act.

India: PM Modi to launch Sansad TV on September 15

New Delhi, Sep 10 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to launch Sansad TV, a new channel formed by merging the Lok Sabha TV and Rajya Sabha TV, on September 15, sources said on Friday.

According to them, veteran Congress leader Karan Singh, economist Bibek Debroy, NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant, and advocate Hemant Batra will host different shows on this new channel.

India, Australia hold inaugural '2+2' talks

New Delhi, Sep 11 (PTI) India and Australia on Saturday began a high-level foreign and defence ministerial dialogue aimed at further ramping up their overall defence and strategic cooperation including in the Indo-Pacific amid China's increasing military assertiveness in the region.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held the inaugural 'two-plus-two' talks here with their Australian counterparts Marise Payne and Peter Dutton.

India: Rahul Gandhi on two-day visit to Jammu from Sep 9

New Delhi, Sep 8 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will be on a two-day visit to Jammu from Thursday, during which he will pay obeisance at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra.

Gandhi will leave for Jammu on Thursday and will participate in the evening 'aarti' at the temple. He will stay at the shrine board's guesthouse, sources said.

The former Congress chief will address a workers' convention at Jammu on Friday and will meet separate delegations of local leaders during a luncheon meeting, they said.

India: CCS clears procurement of 56 transport aircraft for IAF

New Delhi, Sep 8 (PTI) In a major decision, the Cabinet Committee on Security on Wednesday approved the procurement of 56 C-295 medium transport aircraft for the Indian Air Force to replace its ageing Avro planes which were first inducted around 60 years ago.

Sixteen aircraft will be delivered in a flyaway condition by the Airbus Defence and Space of Spain within 48 months of signing the contract while the remaining 40 planes will be manufactured in India, according to the defence ministry.

India: US acting ambassador meets RSS Chief Bhagwat

New Delhi, Sep 9 (PTI) US acting ambassador Atul Keshap met RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Wednesday.

After the meeting, Keshap said he held a "good discussion" with Bhagwat on how "India's tradition of diversity, democracy, inclusivity, and pluralism can ensure the vitality and strength of a truly great nation."
