More than 100 wounded in rockets fired from Gaza in response to Israeli airstrikes

Iranian, Saudi FMs call for accelerating bilateral cooperation

TEHRAN, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud stressed the necessity for accelerating the development of bilateral cooperation in different areas, according to a statement published on the Iranian Foreign Ministry's website on Friday.

In a phone conversation on Thursday night, the two foreign ministers called for expanding Tehran-Riyadh cooperation in the areas of economy, trade, investment and tourism, and discussed issues of common interest.

Türkiye confirms its armed drone downed in cross-border operation in N. Syria

ANKARA, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Türkiye said one of its armed drones was downed during its cross-border operation against the Syrian Kurdish Protection Units (YPG) in northern Syria, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

The ministry said the comprehensive security operations were launched by the Turkish Armed Forces and Intelligence Organization against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and YPG group in Iraq and Syria.

Lebanon: Drone attack kills 80 and wounds 240 at a packed Syrian military graduation ceremony, official says

BEIRUT (AP) — A drone attack hit a crowded military graduation ceremony Thursday in the Syrian city of Homs, killing 80 people and wounding 240, the health minister said, in one of the deadliest recent attacks on an army that’s been fighting a civil war for more than a decade.

The strike killed civilians, including six children, as well as military personnel, and there were concerns the death toll could rise as many of the wounded were in serious condition, Health Minister Hassan al-Ghabash said.

An American tourist is arrested for smashing ancient Roman statues at a museum in Israel

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli police have arrested an American tourist at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem after he hurled works of art to the floor, defacing two second-century Roman statues.

The vandalism late Thursday raised questions about the safety of Israel’s priceless collections and stirred concern about a rise in attacks on cultural heritage in Jerusalem.

Police identified the suspect as a radical 40-year-old Jewish American tourist and said initial questioning suggested he smashed the statues because he considered them “to be idolatrous and contrary to the Torah.”

Palestinian Islamic Jihad Claims Having Homemade Drones

GAZA, Oct 5 (NNN-WAFA) – The Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) movement, revealed yesterday that, it has acquired “a large number” of homemade drones and integrated them into its military operations.

The PIJ made the announcement during a military parade, marking the 36th anniversary of its foundation. Thousands of masked militants from the al-Quds Brigades, the PIJ’s armed wing, marched through Gaza streets while carrying weapons, including missiles.

Turkey: Police arrest over 100 suspected drug dealers in Istanbul

ISTANBUL, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Over 100 people were arrested in a major operation against drug traffickers in Istanbul, Türkiye's largest city, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on Thursday.

Police carried out overnight raids in 25 out of 39 districts of the city, arresting 104 suspects, Yerlikaya said on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

Police also seized 3.5 kilograms of bonsai and various amounts of methamphetamine, cannabis, skunk, drug pills, weapons, and money, he said.

Libyan parliament refers newly approved election laws to Elections Commission

TRIPOLI, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Libya's newly approved presidential and national assembly election laws were referred to the High National Elections Commission, said the speaker of Libyan parliament on Wednesday.

The laws were issued on Wednesday officially by Libyan parliament, the House of Representatives, based on the 13th Constitutional Amendment and the outcomes of the 6+6 committee, said a statement on its official website.
