Israel vows complete siege of Gaza as it strikes the Palestinian territory after incursion by Hamas

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel’s military ordered a complete siege on the Gaza Strip on Monday, halting entry of food, fuel and supplies to its 2.3 million people as it pounded the Hamas-ruled territory with waves of airstrikes in retaliation for the militants’ bloody weekend incursion.

Jordan's Abdullah says escalating violence threatens region's security

AMMAN, Oct 8 (Reuters) - Jordan's King Abdullah said on Sunday there was a need to intensify diplomatic efforts to prevent escalating Israel-Palestinian violence with "dangerous repercussions" for the region's security.

In comments made on state media, Abdullah said contacts with regional and international parties were underway to discuss "urgent international action to avoid an escalation and prevent the region from the consequences of a new round of violence."

Egypt, Jordan discuss efforts to halt Palestinian-Israeli escalation

A policeman in Egypt killed 2 Israelis and 1 Egyptian at a tourist site in Alexandria

CAIRO (AP) — An Egyptian policeman opened fire Sunday on Israeli tourists in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, killing at least two Israelis and one Egyptian, Israeli and Egyptian authorities said.

A statement from Egypt’s Interior Ministry said that another person was wounded in the attack at the Pompey’s Pillar site in Alexandria. It provided no further details.

Lebanon’s Naval Forces Rescued 125 Migrants At Sea

BEIRUT, Oct 7 (NNN-NNA) – The Lebanese navy, yesterday rescued 124 Syrians and one Lebanese, on board an illegal immigration boat, off the shores of al-Mina, in the northern city of Tripoli, near the Palm Islands.

The boat had set off from al-Abda Beach, however, its engine broke down yesterday afternoon. The passengers called for help from the army naval forces, whose members immediately intervened and rescued them.

The boat and passengers were transferred to the port of Tripoli, and were provided with first aid immediately.

Three Dead, 16 Injured In Lebanese Prison Fire

BEIRUT, Oct 7 (NNN-NNA) – Three prisoners were killed and 16 others injured yesterday, in a fire inside a prison in Zahle, located in the Bekaa valley in eastern Lebanon.

The fire was set by several prisoners, as they were trying to escape from the prison due to dire living conditions there, amid the current financial crisis, said the report.
