UAE hired NSA hackers to spy on Qatar

08 Feb 2021; MEMO: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) established an electronic spy network that included "former members of the US National Security Agency, with the aim of spying on Qatar", The New York Times reported.

The US daily said the aim of the hacking network was to prove Qatar's terrorism financing allegations and Qatar's funding to the Muslim Brotherhood group.

Israel: Netanyahu pleads not guilty to corruption as trial resumes

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pleaded not guilty on Monday to corruption charges at the resumption of his trial, six weeks before voters again head to the polls to pass judgment on his leadership.

“I confirm the written answer submitted in my name,” Netanyahu said, standing before the three-judge panel in the heavily guarded Jerusalem District Court.

32 illegal migrants rescued off Libyan coast

TRIPOLI, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on Sunday said that 32 illegal migrants, including women and children, were rescued off Libya's western coast.

"Another boat returned to Tripoli with 32 people on board, including 2 children and 3 Libyan families. The wooden vessel had set off from Zawiya the previous day," UNHCR tweeted.

UNHCR stressed that Libya is not a safe port for the disembarkation of rescued migrants.

Sudan's PM issues decision to dissolve gov't

KHARTOUM, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Sudan's Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok on Sunday issued a decision to dissolve the government, said the Council of Ministers in a statement.

"In accordance with the provisions of the constitutional document for the transitional period, the prime minister issued a decision today to relieve the ministers and ministers of state in the government of the transitional period from their posts and end the assignment of the acting ministers," the statement said.

China to provide COVID-19 vaccines to Egypt, Arab League

CAIRO, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- China will provide a batch of COVID-19 vaccines to Egypt and the Arab League, Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang announced on Sunday.

China has recently decided to provide Egypt and the Arab League with a batch of COVID-19 vaccines, and is willing to facilitate Egypt's procurement of COVID-19 vaccines produced by Chinese companies, said Liao at an online press conference.

UAE: Three Saudi youths get prison sentence instead of death

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Three young Saudi men who faced death sentences for acts they were accused of committing as minors have been handed a 10-year prison sentence instead, the Saudi Human Rights Commission said.

Ali al-Nimr, Dawood al-Marhoun and Abdullah al-Zaher, youth from Saudi Arabia’s Shiite minority, were detained separately on charges stemming from their participation in anti-government Shiite protests over discrimination that rocked the country’s eastern province in 2011-2012.

Russian military hands over humanitarian aid to teachers in Syria’s Aleppo

Palestinian Man Killed By Israeli Settlers’ Gunfire In The West Bank: Palestinian Medics

RAMALLAH, Feb 6 (NNN-WAFA) – A Palestinian man was shot dead yesterday, by Israeli settlers’ gunfire, near the West Bank city of Ramallah, Palestinian medical sources said.

The sources said that Khaled Nofal, 34, was killed, after an Israeli settler opened fire at him, near the village of Ras Karkar, West of the city.

Meanwhile, Israeli media reported that an unarmed Palestinian man was shot dead, in a West Bank settlement, after he tried to break into a home.

UAE says it's committed to working with U.S. to reduce regional tensions-state news agency

CAIRO (Reuters) - The United Arab Emirates’ foreign minister affirmed his country’s commitment to working closely with the Biden administration to reduce regional tensions during a phone call with the United States’ special envoy for Iran, state news agency WAM reported on Saturday.

In the phone call with special envoy Rob Malley, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan affirmed “the UAE’s commitment to strengthening relations and working closely with the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden to reduce regional tensions, (and) start a new dialogue,” WAM reported.
