Assange attorney joins Bin Salman’s defence team

04 Nov 2020; MEMO: The attorney of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has joined the legal defence team of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman, Anadolu reported on Tuesday. Bin Salman is involved in two cases before the US courts related to human rights violations and the killing and attempted killing of dissidents.

Tunisia seeks help of doctors living abroad to fight Covid-19

04 Nov 2020; MEMO: Tunisia’s Minister of Health has confirmed that about 3,000 Tunisian doctors living abroad have been asked to return to the country temporarily to help in the struggle against Covid-19. Faouzi Mehdi pointed out that volunteer physicians could be flown to Tunisia via the state airline.

Mehdi explained that his ministry is seeking to attract 300 doctors with the necessary training and skills to cope with the crisis.

Iraq arrests PM’s adviser on corruption charges

04 Nov 2020; MEMO: Iraqi security forces yesterday arrested Raad Al-Haris, adviser to Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, and the country’s former deputy minister of electricity, over charges linked to corruption and mismanagement.

The Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq said in a statement that an arrest warrant had been issued against Raad Mohsen Ghazi Shabib Al-Haris based on a complaint filed against him by the permanent investigation committee.

Sudan extends transitional government period

04 Nov 2020; MEMO: Sudan’s Sovereign Council and Ministerial Council have approved a constitutional document which includes the extension of the transitional government period for 14 more months, local media reported on Monday.

The original constitutional document placed August 2019 as the start of the transitional period. The change is dated from the signing of the Juba peace deal last month.

French probe into Beirut blast remains ‘inconclusive’

BEIRUT, Nov 4 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Lebanon’s lead investigator in the Aug 4 Beirut explosion that killed more than 200 people has been informed that French experts have so far reached no conclusion on the cause of the blast, a senior Lebanese judicial source said.

Judicial investigator Fadi Sawan was provided with the preliminary information during a call on Tuesday with a French judge investigating the blast, the source said.

The French judiciary has opened its own investigation into the explosion as French citizens were among those killed and injured.

80 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails have COVID-19

04 Nov 2020; MEMO: More than 80 Palestinian prisoners being held in Israeli jails have contracted coronavirus, the Wa’ed Association for Prisoners and Liberated Prisoners said in a press conference in Gaza today.

The detainees are being held in the Gilboa prison and include prisoners who have existing medical conditions and the elders.

Iran’s armed forces chief offers to help Turkey’s earthquake victims

04 Nov 2020; MEMO: The Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Muhammad Hossein Baqeri, said yesterday that the Islamic Republic’s armed forces are ready to help the victims of the earthquake that hit the western Turkish city of Izmir on Friday.

In a telegram sent to his Turkish counterpart, Lieutenant General Yasar Guler, Baqeri said that the Iranian armed forces are ready to provide “any form of assistance to the victims in the aftermath of the earthquake”.

Palestinian officer fires at Israeli troops and is shot dead, army says

NABLUS, West Bank (Reuters) - A Palestinian motorist fired a pistol at Israeli soldiers in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday and was killed by them, a military spokesman said, and Palestinians identified the dead man as an officer in their security forces.

There were no Israeli casualties in the incident at a roadside military position near the Palestinian city of Nablus.
