Egypt reopens border crossing with Gaza

02 Nov 2020; MEMO: Egypt will reopen the Rafah crossing with the blockaded Gaza Strip on Monday, the Palestinian Interior Ministry said on Sunday.

“The terminal will be open in both directions for four days until Thursday,” the Hamas-run ministry said in a statement.

This is the third time for the Egyptian authorities to reopen the Rafah crossing since March.

Israel’s Netanyahu praises Trump policies ahead of election

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel’s leader on Sunday praised President Donald Trump’s Mideast policies, even as he avoided openly taking sides ahead of the U.S. presidential election.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told reporters that U.S. bipartisan support has been “one of the foundations of the American-Israeli alliance.” He then went on to say “that alliance has never been stronger” and praised a slew of steps taken by Trump in favor of Israel.

Algerian sharply divided over usefulness of constitutional vote

Morocco: Former PM Benkirane demand apology from France

01 Nov 2020; MEMO: Former Moroccan PM Abdelilah Benkirane has demanded that France apologize and practice moderation, after insulting the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Benkirane said in his first statement for several months months, during a speech broadcasted on Facebook: “I am sure that French President Emmanuel Macron made a mistake, especially when he adopted as head of state an insult against the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and yet no French citizen should be assaulted.”

Thousands at Al-Aqsa Mosque protest Macron’s remarks

01 Nov 2020; MEMO: Thousands of Palestinians gathered on Friday at the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex in Jerusalem to protest French President Emmanuel Macron’s anti-Islamic remarks.

Preacher at Al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Ekrima Sabri condemned the republication of caricatures insulting the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), as well as Macron’s statements.

“The French president has declared his hostility towards Muslims around the world,” Sabri announced.

Driver crashes car into gate of Makkah's Grand Mosque

01 Nov 2020; MEMO: A Saudi driver crashed his car into one of the outer gates of Mecca’s Grand Mosque early Saturday, according to the official SPA news agency.

Videos on social media showed a grey car ramming through barricades erected around the outer courtyard of the mosque before hitting one of the gates.

According to the spokesman of the Mecca province, Sultan al-Dousari, security authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

Death toll reaches 39 in quake that hit Turkey, Greek island

IZMIR, Turkey (AP) — Three young children and their mother were rescued alive from the rubble of a collapsed building in western Turkey on Saturday, some 23 hours after a powerful earthquake in the Aegean Sea killed at least 39 people and injured more than 800 others. One of the children died soon after being rescued, while a fourth child was still trapped.

Libyan premier takes back decision to resign

31 Oct 2020; MEMO: Libyan Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj said on Friday he took back his decision to resign at the end of October, Anadolu Agency reports.

Sarraj will remain in office until the ongoing intra-Libyan political dialogue talks come to an end, Libyan government spokesman Galib al-Zaklai said on Twitter.
