Palestine prisoner dies of medical negligence in Israel jails

03 Sep 2020; MEMO: A Palestinian political prisoner being held in Israel’s Ofer Prison collapsed due to medical negligence and died yesterday evening, the Israel Prison Service said.

Daud Al-Khatib, 45, had been serving a sentence of 18 years and eight months for his resistance activities against the Israeli occupation. He had been in Israeli jails since 2002.

Turkey to begin tests of Russian anti-coronavirus vaccine soon - health minister

ANKARA, September 2. /TASS/: Turkey may soon issue a permit for tests of the Russian anti-coronavirus vaccine, Turkish Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca said on Wednesday.

"We have received an inquiry concerning trials of the vaccine developed in Russia. The related documents have already been checked and a permit will soon be issued," he said, adding that Turkey is currently testing two its own vaccines.

Syrian Air Defences Intercept Israeli Missiles

DAMASCUS, Sept 3 (NNN-SANA) – The Syrian air defences, last night, intercepted a fresh Israeli missile attack in central Syria.

The Israeli warplanes fired missiles from the direction of the al-Tanf area, in southeastern Syria, targeting the T4 air base in the central province of Homs, a military source said.

The air defences intercepted most of the missiles and the rest caused only minor damage.

The attack is the latest in a series of Israeli missile strikes, against Syrian military sites.

Tunisia lawmakers approve new government

TUNIS, Sept 2 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Tunisia’s parliament approved the country’s third government in less than a year on Wednesday, overcoming discontent among lawmakers incensed by how the administration was formed and averting the threat of disruptive early elections.

Former interior minister Hichem Mechichi was confirmed as premier after his cabinet, dominated by independent technocrats, secured support from nearly two-thirds of the chamber’s deputies overnight.

Turkey condemns Austrian espionage claims

02 Sep 2020; MEMO: Turkey has condemned claims by the Austrian authorities that it is conducting espionage operations in their country, saying that the allegations are based on rising anti-Turkey sentiment. The accusations followed the filing of charges yesterday against a man who Austria claims has confessed to being a Turkish intelligence agent.

Bahrain rejects normalisation with Israel without Palestine statehood

Bahrain has refused to follow in the footsteps of the UAE and insisted that it would only normalise ties with Israel when regional power-house, Saudi Arabia, strikes a deal with Tel Aviv.

Israel soldier under investigation for planting explosive device in Palestinian village

02 Sep 2020; MEMO: Israel’s military police launched an investigation into soldiers who placed explosives inside the West Bank Palestinian village of Qaddum last month, reported Haaretz. The investigation follows a report last week, by the Israeli newspaper, that occupation soldiers of the Zionist state had planted at least three explosive devices along a road in the Palestinian village that runs near a residential area.

French leader warns Lebanese politicians of ‘last chance’

BEIRUT (AP) — French President Emmanuel Macron said Lebanese politicians have committed to a road map that begins with a government of experts to be formed in two weeks and quickly enacts reforms.

Speaking at the end of two days of meetings in Beirut, Macron said France was committed to helping Lebanon get out of its crisis, but failing to implement reforms within a three-month period would result in punitive actions, including withholding vital international assistance.
