Israel Reports 14,498 COVID-19 Cases In Total

JERUSALEM, Apr 23 (NNN-MA’AN) – Israel’s Ministry of Health reported 556 new cases of COVID-19, on Wednesday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 14,498.

According to the ministry, the number of recoveries on Wednesday reached a daily record high of 708. Thus, the total number of recoveries in Israel currently stands at 5,215.

The death toll from the virus in Israel rose to 189, with five patients who passed away on Wednesday.

The number of ventilated patients decreased from 113 to 106, out of 470 patients currently hospitalised in Israel.

Turkey Reports 3,083 More COVID-19 Cases, 98,674 In Total

ANKARA, Apr 23 (NNN-ANADOLU) – Turkish Health Minister, Fahrettin Koca on Wednesday, confirmed 3,083 new COVID-19 cases and 117 more deaths in Turkey for the past 24 hours.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Turkey increased to 98,674, while the death toll surged to 2,376, Koca said.

Turkey conducted 37,535 tests for the virus in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of tests carried out to 750,944, he added.

UAE Announces Rise In COVID-19 Recoveries To 1,546

ABU DHABI, Apr 23 (NNN-WAM) – The UAE announced that, an additional 103 patients had recovered from the COVID-19, after receiving the necessary medical care, raising the total number of recoveries to 1,546.

During the regular media briefing held in Abu Dhabi, Dr. Farida Al Hosani, official spokesperson of the UAE’s health sector, said, some 31,809 additional tests were conducted across various emirates, leading to the identification of 483 new cases, among various nationalities and bringing the total number of cases in the country to 8,238.

Iran says ready to repel any threat

TEHRAN, April 23 (Xinhua) -- The Iranian defense minister said on Thursday that the armed forces are ready to repel any threat against the country, official IRNA news agency reported.

The armed forces have been monitoring global and regional developments with vigilant eyes, said Amir Hatami at a meeting held in the capital Tehran with the participation of military advisors and officials.

Highlighting the capabilities of the Iranian armed forces, he said the hegemonic system has been showing hostilities toward Iran for 40 years.

Protests resumed in Lebanon against gov't policies

BEIRUT, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese protesters resumed on Wednesday their demonstrations all over the country against the cabinet's policies amid a meeting for the parliament to approve draft laws, the National News Agency reported.

Protesters drove their cars while holding Lebanese flags and vowing to resume their nationwide protests given the dire economic circumstances and the inability of the government to adopt policies that would reduce poverty in the country.

First virus case recorded in refugee camp in Lebanon

BEIRUT (AP) — A Palestinian woman from Syria has become the first refugee living in a camp in Lebanon to test positive for the coronavirus, the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees said Wednesday. It triggered a spate of testing to determine whether other residents have been infected.

The agency, UNRWA, said the woman resided in the only Palestinian camp in eastern Lebanon’s Bekaa region. It said all necessary measures had been taken and the patient was transferred to the government-run Rafik Hariri Hospital in Beirut.

PLO: Israel exploiting coronavirus to annex West Bank, East Jerusalem

Saudi arrests family of tribal leader killed for refusing to give up home for NEOM project

22 April 2020; MEMO: Saudi authorities have arrested eight members of the Al-Hwaiti tribe in the north-western town of Al-Khuraybah only days their relative and tribal leader Abdul Rahim Al-Hwaiti was shot dead for refusing to give up his home to make way for the kingdom’s NEOM mega-city project.

Al Jazeera reported witnesses as saying that authorities arrested eight members of the Al-Hwaiti tribe for refusing to give up their homes for the NEOM project.

UN calls for restraint on Lebanon-Israel border
