At Least 14 Killed And Hundreds Injured As Earthquake Hits Turkey

SIVRICE, Turkey, Jan 25 (NNN-ANADOLU) – At least 14 killed and 315 injured, in an earthquake in Turkey

The tremor, with a preliminary magnitude of 6.8, shook the country’s east, just before 6 pm GMT, Turkish officials say. 

It struck near the town of Sivrice in eastern Elazig province, causing buildings to collapse, the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency said, on Friday. 

Thousands Protest In Iraq To Demand Ouster Of US Troops

BAGHDAD, Jan 25 (NNN-NINA) – Thousands of supporters of Iraqi cleric, Moqtada Sadr, gathered in Baghdad for a rally, to demand the ouster of US troops.

The march rattled the separate, months-old protest movement, that gripped the capital and the Shiite-majority south since Oct, demanding a government overhaul, early elections and more accountability.

In the early hours of Friday, thousands of men, women and children of all ages massed under grey skies in the Jadiriyah district of east Baghdad.

At least 18 dead, hundreds hurt as quake hits eastern Turkey

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — A 6.8-magnitude earthquake rocked a sparsely-populated part of eastern Turkey on Friday, killing at least 18 people, injuring more than 500 and leaving some 30 trapped in the wreckage of toppled buildings, Turkish officials said.

Rescue teams from neighboring provinces were dispatched to the affected areas, working in the dark with floodlights in the freezing cold, and Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said troops were on standby to help.

Hundreds of residents were left homeless or with damaged homes.

Israel continues to flood Gaza farmland

24 Jan 2019; MEMO: Israeli authorities have “for days now” been opening rainwater stores near the besieged Gaza Strip drowning Palestinian land, the enclave’s agriculture ministry reported yesterday.

The ministry added that the occupation forces were “controlling the opening and closing of the rainwater stores in Gaza,” noting that it had damaged Palestinian farmers’ crops.

40 Syria regime soldiers killed in Idlib attack

24 Jan 2019; MEMO: The Russian Reconciliation Centre said 40 soldiers from the Syrian regime’s forces have been killed and 80 others were wounded during a major attack by armed opposition groups against the regime’s positions in Idlib, northern Syria.

The centre said that about 200 fighters from the Islamic Party of Turkestan equipped with 20 cars, tanks and two armoured vehicles attacked the Syrian regime forces’ positions in Idlib on Wednesday evening, forcing them to move south.

Gazan factions urge World Holocaust Forum to stop Israeli violations against Palestinians

GAZA, Jan 24 (NNN-Xinhua) — Palestinian factions in Gaza called on the participants of the World Holocaust Forum held in Jerusalem to stop the Israeli practices and violations against the Palestinian people.

In a joint statement circulated during a demonstration in front of the UN headquarters in western Gaza City, the factions expressed their rejection to the World Holocaust Forum because of Israeli violations against the Palestinians.

Libya reopens Tripoli’s Mitiga airport

TRIPOLI, Jan 24 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Libya’s internationally recognised government said on Thursday that it had reopened Mitiga, Tripoli’s only functioning airport, following almost a day of closure after rockets were fired towards it.

Mitiga, just east of central Tripoli, has repeatedly come under attack in recent months, forcing airport authorities to halt flights for several hours.

The eastern-based Libyan National Army (LNA), led by renegade military commander Khalifa Haftar, said on Wednesday that it had shot down a Turkish drone in southern Tripoli.
