Palestinian plan for economic disengagement faces Israeli threats

RAMALLAH, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian government's plan for economic disengagement from Israel faces grave challenge, including Israeli threats to impose sanctions on the Palestinians.

The plan comes in line with the resolutions of the Palestinian National and Central councils to suspend the recognition of Israel, until it recognizes the state of Palestine on the borders of 1967.

Turkey to celebrate Republic Day on Tuesday

28 Oct 2019; AA: Millions of Turks across the country and abroad will celebrate on Tuesday the 96th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey.

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the republic's founder, on Oct. 29, 1923 officially declared the name of the nation and proclaimed the country's status as a republic.

A vote then took place in the Grand National Assembly, and Ataturk, a revolutionary statesman, was elected the first president of the Republic of Turkey by unanimous vote.

UAE’s Mohamed Bin Zayed, Swiss President Advancing Bilateral Relations

ABU DHABI, Oct 28 (NNN-WAM) – Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE’s Armed Forces, today received President Ueli Maurer of the Swiss Confederation, currently visiting the UAE.

Iraq authorities suspend Saudi TV channels Al Arabiya and Al-Hadath

28 Oct 2019; MEMO: Al-Hadath TV channel said on Saturday that Iraq has decided to suspend its work, as well as the work of Al Arabiya. According to Al-Hadath website, the Iraqi police force asked reporters of the two Saudi TV channels to stop any journalism activity in the country.

U.S. Treasury's Mnuchin says U.S. will ramp up pressure on Iran

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said on Monday that the United States will increase economic pressure on Iran over its nuclear program.

“We have executed on a maximum pressure campaign for sanctions. They have worked, they are working, they are cutting off the money,” Mnuchin said during a visit to Israel.

He made the comments to reporters standing with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who urged him to increase pressure on Iran.

Students defy prime minister to join Iraq protests

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraqi security forces on Monday fired tear gas at school and university students who defied a warning from the prime minister and joined anti-government protests that have left more than 200 people dead over the past month.

A spokesman for Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, whose position is increasingly precarious as he faces the largest challenge since he came to power a year ago, said on Sunday that anyone disrupting work or school days would be severely punished.

Qatar pays $100 to 75,000 Gaza families

28 Oct 2019; MEMO: Head of Qatari Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza Strip, Mohammed Al-Emadi, announced that the committee has begun paying cash assistance to 75,000 families in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement, he said that the beneficiaries would receive $100 cash assistance from the post offices across the coastal enclave.

UN voices commitment to support transitional gov't in Sudan

KHARTOUM, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations (UN) on Sunday voiced commitment to support the transitional government in Sudan to achieve democracy, economic recovery and peace.

Sudan and the UN on Sunday celebrated UN Day 2019 in the capital Khartoum. UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force of the UN Charter in 1945.

Preventive diplomacy helps avoid disputes: Kuwaiti FM

KUWAIT CITY, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Preventive diplomacy helps stop the eruption of disputes and conflicts, and enhance dialogue and mediation amongst countries, Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Kuwait's deputy prime minister and foreign minister, said on Sunday.

He made the remarks at a ceremony held by the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Representative and Resident Coordinator to Kuwait Tareq Al-Sheikh in Hawalli Governorate.
