Iran Says European Decision To Deploy Naval Forces To Gulf “Hostile”

TEHRAN, Iran, July 29 (NNN-IRNA) – “European plan to potentially deploy its naval forces to the Gulf bears a hostile message,” Iran’s government spokesman, Ali Rabiei, said on Sunday.

“The security of the region should be provided by the regional states, and Iran has a pivotal role in providing this security,” Rabiei said, at his weekly press conference.

Rare sea hare spotted in western Turkish coast

29 July 2019; AA: Turkish divers spotted an “aplysia depilans”, a rare species of a sea hare, off western Canakkale province.

Selim Konya, a diving center manager, along with several officials from Istanbul University, recorded spotted the rare sea hare at the depth of 26 meters in the Aegean Sea off Gokceada district.

Noting that it was the first time he saw such a specie, Konya said, “I saw it from a long distance. I was surprised and other divers were also surprised.”

UAE proposes to host next ‘deal of century’ meeting

29 July 2019; MEMO: The UAE has proposed that it hosts the second “deal of the century” meeting, Al-Khaleej Online reported yesterday.

Citing Arab sources, the site said Abu Dhabi sent a message to US President Donald Trump through his son-in-law Jared Kushner that it is ready to host the second meeting of its peace plan the deal of the century.

Second UK navy ship arrives in Persian Gulf

29 July 2019; MEMO: A second UK navy vessel arrived in the Persian Gulf to escort commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz after a British oil tanker was seized by Tehran last week, London announced on Sunday, Anadolu reports.

The UK’s National Defense Ministry said in a statement that the HMS Duncan joined the HMS Montrose to “support the safe passage of British-flagged ships through the Strait of Hormuz.”

Iran to Pompeo: Let journalist detained in America interview you

29 July 2019; MEMO: Spokesman of the Iranian Government Ali Rabiei announced yesterday that his country is ready to send journalist Marzieh Hashemi to interview US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Al-Khaleej Online reported.

In a press conference, Rabiei said that Pompeo had requested to be interviewed by Iranian news sites.

“We have no problem,” Rabiei said, “we can send Marzieh Hashemi to interview him.”

Israel invests in high-tech upgrades at West Bank crossings

QALANDIA CROSSING, West Bank (AP) — It’s just after 6 a.m. and a Palestinian man’s face is momentarily bathed in crimson light, not by the sun rising over the mountains of Jordan, but by a facial recognition scanner at an Israeli checkpoint near Jerusalem.

The Israeli military has installed the face scanners as part a multimillion dollar upgrade of the Qalandia crossing that now allows Palestinians from the West Bank with work permits to zip through with relative ease.

Sudan's military council, opposition to resume talks

KHARTOUM, July 28 (Xinhua) -- African Union (AU) envoy to Sudan on Sunday announced that talks between Sudan's Transitional Military Council (TMC) and the opposition Freedom and Change Alliance would resume on July 30.

The two negotiating delegations of the TMC and the opposition alliance have been invited to resume talks on July 30 in the capital Khartoum to finalize the constitutional declaration and other related issues, said a statement by the AU envoy's office Sunday.

UN warns against escalation of fighting in Tripoli

TRIPOLI, July 29 (Xinhua) -- UN Special Envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame on Sunday warned against escalation of fighting here in the Libyan capital, which is witnessing a deadly armed conflict between the east-based rebel army and the UN-backed government in Tripoli.

Salame made his remarks during a meeting with the rebel army commander General Khalifa Haftar in the eastern city of Rajma.

"They discussed latest developments in Libya and ways to return to a state of peace and dialogue," the UN Support Mission in Libya said.
