Yemen's Houthi rebels claim drone attacks on Saudi air base

SANAA, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Houthi rebels said they launched multiple drone attacks on a Saudi military base in the Saudi Arabia's southwestern province of Asir in late night of Monday, the rebels TV al-Masirah reported.

The attacks targeted King Khaled Airbase in Khamis Mushait city of Asir, the Houthi television said.

There was no confirmation from Saudi Arabia.

Iran urges EU to implement nuke deal to support Iran's economic interests

TEHRAN, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Monday urged the European signatories to the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal to implement their nuclear obligations in supporting Iran's economic interests.

"Implementing the nuclear deal, or the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), is all I expect the Europeans to do," Zarif said at a joint press conference with visiting German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas in the capital Tehran.

Iran denies plans to buy Russian S-400 air defense missile

TEHRAN, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Ministry on Monday denied that the country has plan to purchase the Russian S-400 air defense missile system.

"We have not made any requests to Russia for the purchase of S-400," the Foreign Ministry spokesman, Abbas Mousavi, said in his weekly press conference on Monday.

Mousavi said that the Iranian homemade air defense systems are reliable tools and the Islamic republic dose not need S-400.

Iran has already bought S-300 surface-to-air missile defense system from Russia.

Lebanon launches biggest beach clean-up campaign

BEIRUT, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Thousands of Lebanese citizens on Sunday took part in the biggest national beach clean-up campaign, the National News Agency (NNA) reported.

The campaign "Save Our Face," launched by Lebanese Environment Minister Fadi Jreissati in several locations including Beirut, Akkar, Zahrani, Batroun and Tripoli, aims at conveying a cleaner picture of Lebanon.

Syrian army fights to restore rebel-held areas in Hama

HAMA, Syria, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Syrian army is regaining control over areas that fell to the rebels in an attack which started three days ago, a military source told Xinhua on Sunday.

The Syrian officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, made the remarks from the town of Kafr Houd, which was captured by the army twice within days.

The officer said that the army recaptured Kafr Houd and is moving forward to retake more towns that fell to the rebels since Friday.

3 killed as heavy rains hit southern, eastern Yemen

ADEN, Yemen, June 9 (Xinhua) -- At least three people died in Yemen following heavy rains and flood that struck several parts of the country's southern and eastern provinces over the past few hours on Sunday.

An Aden-based security official told Xinhua that torrential rains, lightning and high winds also caused a number of injuries in addition to blocking main roads in Aden and other neighboring provinces.

Libyan navy rescues 22 migrants off western coast

TRIPOLI, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Libyan navy on Saturday announced rescuing 22 migrants of different African nationalities off the country's western coast.

The migrants were rescued some 55 km off the coast of Sabratha city, some 70 km west of the capital Tripoli, the navy said in a statement.

The rescued migrants have been provided with humanitarian and medical assistance and taken to a reception center in eastern Tripoli, the statement said.

Iraq supports any stabilizing efforts in Middle East: PM

BAGHDAD, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi Saturday said Iraq supports any efforts aimed at stabilizing the Middle East amid rising tensions between Iran and the United States.

Abdul Mahdi's remarks came during his meeting with the visiting German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas and his delegation in Baghdad, where the two sides discussed bilateral ties and tensions in the Middle East region, Abdul Mahdi's media office said in a statement.
