Iran judiciary indicts two France nationals and Belgian for espionage

03 Jan 2023; MEMO: Iran has indicted two French nationals and a Belgian for espionage and working against the country's national security, the semi-official Student News Network quoted a judiciary spokesperson as saying on Tuesday, Reuters reports.

The agency did not give the names of the three or say where or when they were indicted.

Egypt man who strangled his fiancée sentenced to death

03 Jan 2023; MEMO: Mohamed Samir, who murdered his fiancée Kholoud Al-Sayed Farouk, has been sentenced to death by a court in Egypt.

In October last year Mohamed strangled his fiancée to death in Port Said after she broke off the engagement.

Mohamed then threatened to kill her, and the following day broke into Kholoud's house and murdered her.

Iraq, Saudi Arabia discuss ways to boost relations

03 Jan 2023; MEMO: Iraqi President, Abdul Latif Rashid, met with Saudi Ambassador, Abdulaziz Al-Shammari, in the capital, Baghdad, on Tuesday to discuss ways of strengthening relations between the two countries, Anadolu News Agency reports.

A statement by Abdul Latif's office said the Iraqi leader underlined the depth of relations between Baghdad and Riyadh and the need to bolster them to serve the interests of the two countries and serve regional stability.

Hezbollah Head says change to Al Aqsa status quo could explode the region

03 Jan 2023; MEMO: The leader of Lebanon's powerful armed Hezbollah Movement, Hassan Nasrallah, said that any infringement of the decades-long status quo at the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem could lead to an explosion in the region, not just inside Palestinian Territories, Reuters reports.

Nasrallah's comments followed a visit to the site revered by Muslims, but also Jews, earlier in the day by Israel's new far-right National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir.

Israeli settlers storm agricultural warehouse in occupied West Bank, destroy its contents

02 Jan 2023; MEMO: Israeli settlers on Sunday destroyed the contents of an agricultural warehouse in the West Bank village of Shufa, southeast of Tulkarm, for the second time in a week.

The owner of the warehouse, Tahsin Hamed, said that he was surprised on Sunday morning when he arrived at his land near the settlement of Avni Hefetis to find that settlers had destroyed the contents of the warehouse and destroyed the agricultural equipment inside it.
