China to create more attractive investment, business environment: finance minister

WASHINGTON, April 14 (Xinhua) -- China will continue to significantly relax market access, and create a more attractive investment and business environment, Chinese Finance Minister Liu Kun has said here.

Liu made the remarks when attending a ministerial-level luncheon during the 99th Development Committee meeting held by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund on Friday and Saturday in Washington D.C., according to China's Ministry of Finance.

Vice Finance Minister Zou Jiayi attended a ministerial-level meeting and gave a speech.

Ex-VW boss Martin Winterkorn charged in Dieselgate scandal

15 Apr 2019; DW: Public prosecutors in the German city of Braunschweig have brought charges against former Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn over his role in the Dieselgate scandal, they said on Monday. Four other managers were also charged, they said.

Winterkorn stepped down as Volkswagen CEO in 2015 after revelations that the carmaker had programmed computers in its vehicles to detect when they were being tested and alter the running of diesel engines to conceal the true level of emissions.

Over 1,300 refugees leave Syria’s Rukban camp in past day

MOSCOW, April 15. /TASS/. More than 1,300 refugees have left the Syrian refugee camp Rukban, located within the US-controlled area, via the safe exit, Major General Viktor Kupchishin, chief of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Opposing Parties in Syria, said.

"During the day, as many as 1,358 refugees managed to leave the Rukban camp via the humanitarian corridor. In all, a total of 3,642 people have left the Rukban camp for the territory controlled by the Syrian authorities since February 19, 2019," he said.

UN envoy discusses formation of constitutional committee with Syrian FM

DAMASCUS, April 14 (Xinhua) -- The UN envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen discussed the formation of the constitutional committee with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem in Damascus on Sunday, state news agency SANA reported.

They discussed the exerted efforts in the political track for resolving the Syrian crisis, including the formation of the constitutional committee, SANA said.

Pedersen briefed al-Moallem on his activities since his last visit to Syria's capital Damascus in March.

No more details were given about the meeting.

Social Democrats, populists top Finland vote ahead of EU’s

HELSINKI (AP) — Results from Finland’s parliamentary election illustrated the struggle by Europe’s traditional political parties to retain supporters, with the center-left Social Democratic Party winning the most votes and followed closely by a populist party that wants to temper national efforts to curb climate change.

The 17.7% of the vote the Social Democrats received gives it 40 of the 200 seats in Finland’s new parliament, one more than the 39 the euroskeptic, anti-immigration Finns Party secured with its 17.5% support.

Modi Biopic: SC directs EC to watch movie, submit sealed decision

New Delhi, Apr 15 (PTI) The Supreme Court Monday directed the Election Commission to watch the full biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and take an informed decision by April 19 on banning its pan India release.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi also directed the poll panel to submit its decision to the court in a sealed cover and said it will consider the matter on April 22.

Indian Polls: Adityanath, Mayawati censured, barred from campaigning for 72, 48 hrs respectively

New Delhi, Apr 15 (PTI) The Election Commission on Monday "strongly condemned" Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BSP supremo Mayawati for their communal remarks and barred them from campaigning for different periods.

While Adityanath was barred for 72 hours, Mayawati has been barred for 48 hours, separate EC orders said.

The two have also been "censured".

India: 3 Naxal terrorists, CRPF jawan killed in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Apr 15 (PTI) Three Maoists and a CRPF jawan were killed in an encounter in Jharkhand's Giridih district on Monday, officials said.

They said the encounter between the two sides took place around 6 am in the forests of Belbha Ghat area of the district when troops of the 7th battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were undertaking an anti-Naxal operation.

The district is about 185 kms from state capital Ranchi.

Four Ukrainian soldiers killed in skirmish with Right Sector activists in Donbass

Four Ukrainian soldiers were killed in a skirmish with activists of the Right Sector nationalist organization (outlawed in Russia) in the settlement of Avdeyevka, Daniil Bezsonov, a spokesman for the defense ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), said on Sunday.

"Right Sector militants who arrived in Avdeyevka seized the premises of the Tsarskaya Okhota compound without consent from the command of the 93rd brigade," the Donetsk News Agency quoted him as saying.
