"Bomb cyclone" storm hammering central US, disrupting travel

(AP) - Blizzard warnings were posted from Colorado to Minnesota on Wednesday and wildfires were a concern in New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma as the second so-called “bomb cyclone” storm in less than a month hit the central U.S., raising the prospect of renewed flooding in the already drenched Midwest.

Heavy snow disrupted ground and air travel Wednesday. Roads became impassable and visibility was down to a few feet in northeastern South Dakota due to heavy snowfall. About half of the daily flights at Denver International Airport were canceled.

796 Stolen Chinese cultural relics returned from Italy

BEIJING, April 10 (Xinhua) -- A total of 796 Chinese cultural relics arrived at Beijing International Airport at 6:54 a.m. Wednesday after an eight-hour flight from Italy.

The group of Chinese artifacts were first noticed by a unit of Carabinieri, or the national gendarmerie of Italy, on the local relics auction market in 2007, which was followed by a domestic judicial trial.

China's National Cultural Heritage Administration immediately contacted its Italian counterpart after hearing the news and started the repatriation of the relics.

Geoffrey Rush wins case against Sydney newspaper publisher

SYDNEY (AP) — Oscar-winning actor Geoffrey Rush won his defamation case on Thursday against a Sydney newspaper publisher and journalist over reports he had been accused of inappropriate behavior toward an actress.

The 67-year-old Australian had sued The Daily Telegraph’s publisher and journalist Jonathon Moran over two stories and a poster published in late 2017.

Anti-BJP votes deleted across India: Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi, Apr 11 (PTI) AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal Thursday claimed that genuine anti-BJP votes have been deleted across India at an "unprecedented scale" and questioned the Election Commission over the fairness of the ongoing polls.

His deputy Manish Sisodia accused the EC of "serving the BJP".

In a series of tweets, Kejriwal tagged the people who claimed their names or the names of their relatives have been deleted from the voter lists.

Torn pages of Sikh holy book found in Punjab village drain

Tarn Taran, Apr 10 (PTI) Pages of a holy Sikh book (Gutka Sahib) were allegedly found torn from a non-functional drain in Panjwar village here, the police said.

An FIR was registered against unknown persons under Section 295 of the IPC for hurting religious sentiments at the Chabbal Police Station, SHO Baljit Singh said.

A probe has been initiated and some locals have been questioned, Singh added.

Panjwar was a hotbed of terror activities in the late nineties when insurgency was at its peak in Punjab.

The Falcon Heavy was poised to blast off from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Wednesday night with a communication satellite. But SpaceX chief Elon Musk said upper-level wind shear was extremely high.

Chinese envoy calls for political solution in Venezuela, asks to lift sanctions

UNITED NATIONS, April 10 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese envoy on Wednesday called for a political solution to the Venezuela crisis and asked for the lifting of unilateral sanctions against the country.

"China calls on the Venezuelan government and opposition to seek a political solution through dialogue and consultations within the constitutional and legal framework," Ma Zhaoxu, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, told the Security Council.

Maduro, Red Cross agree on delivery of humanitarian aid to Venezuela

CARACAS, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said on Wednesday night that he had reached an agreement with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on the delivery of humanitarian aid supplies within the framework of respect for the national sovereignty of his country.

Maduro said he had a meeting with Peter Maurer, president of the ICRC and Sophie Orr, the ICRC's regional director for the Americas on Tuesday night at Miraflores Presidential Palace in Caracas.

US urges UN to recognize Venezuela's Guaido

"The time has come for the United Nations to recognize interim president Juan Guaido as the legitimate president of Venezuela and seat his representative in this body," Pence added.

India: UP BJP MLA dies of heart attack

Agra (UP), Apr 10 (PTI) BJP MLA from Agra East constituency Jagan Prasad Garg died of heart attack at a private hospital here on Wednesday. He was 65.

Garg, , a five-time MLA, had been unwell for the past two days, his family members said.

Several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders paid their tributes to Garg.

A popular leader of the Vaishya community, Garg represented the Agra East constituency in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.
