India: PM Modi has no vision - just "television": Congress

Bhubaneswar, Apr 4 (PTI) The Congress on Thursday mocked the BJP-led government, saying its "dismal" performance bore testimony to the fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has only "television" instead of vision.

The Rahul Gandhi-led party also slammed the BJP for criticising its manifesto, noting that the central government had no right to preach national security, as the country saw a "260 per cent" rise in terror-related incidents during the last five years.

Aussie maths whiz solves 48-year-old multiplication problem

SYDNEY, April 5 (Xinhua) -- A mathematics professor from Australia's University of New South Wales (UNSW) has solved a 48-year multiplication puzzle which will give computers the ability to multiple large numbers much faster.

Associate Professor David Harvey, from UNSW's School of Mathematics and Statistics, on Thursday published a method to multiply large numbers which proves an academic theorem first proposed in 1971 by German mathematicians, Arnold Schonhage and Volker Strassen.

Indian Polls: Ambedkar says will jail EC if voted to power

Mumbai, Apr 4 (PTI) A case was registered against Bharip Bahujan Mahasangh president Prakash Ambedkar on Thursday for allegedly making objectionable remarks against the Election Commission (EC), police said.

Earlier in the day, addressing an election rally at Digras in Maharashtra's Yavatmal district, Ambedkar said he would jail the EC for two days if voted to power.

600 theatre personalities urge people to vote against 'bigotry, hatred, and apathy'

Mumbai, Apr 5 (PTI) More than 600 theatre personalities, including Amol Palekar, Naseeruddin Shah, Girish Karnad and Usha Ganguli, have signed a letter asking people to "vote BJP and its allies" out of power, arguing that the idea of India and its constitution are under threat.

The letter, which was issued Thursday evening in 12 languages on the Artist Unite India website, said the upcoming Lok Sabha elections are the "most critical in the history" of the country.

BRICS Business Council resolves to help grow economy

Luxembourg-Chengdu freight train route launched

LUXEMBOURG, April 4 (Xinhua) -- A new railway line for freight trains between Luxembourg and the city of Chengdu in China was launched here on Thursday, with the first train loaded with 41 containers on its way to China.

The 40-foot containers were filled with mechanical and electrical products, food and medical equipment as well as other imports from around Europe. The train is expected to reach the international railway station of Qingbaijiang in Chengdu in 15 days after passing through Germany, Poland, Belarus, Russia, and Kazakhstan.

India: Income tax won't be raised to fund Nyay scheme: Rahul

Pune, Apr 5 (PTI) Congress president Rahul Gandhi Friday said the 'Nyay' minimum income scheme for the poor will be implemented without raising income tax or burdening the middle class.

The opposition party has said that if voted to power, it will give Rs 72,000 per year as minimum income to poor families, benefiting around 25 crore people, a move Gandhi has termed a 'surgical strike' on poverty.
