Hundreds stranded as British airline Flybmi collapses

LONDON (AP) — Hundreds of passengers throughout Europe have been stranded by the abrupt collapse of the British regional airline Flybmi.

British Midland Regional Limited, which operates as Flybmi, said it’s filing for administration — a British version of bankruptcy — because of higher fuel costs and uncertainty caused by Britain’s upcoming departure from the European Union.

Mobile internet services restored in Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 17 (PTI) Mobile internet services were restored in Kashmir on Sunday, a day after they were suspended as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order, officials said.

High speed mobile internet was restored across Kashmir Valley on Sunday night, the officials said.

They said the services were restored as the situation remained peaceful in the Valley.

Kejriwal demands statehood for Delhi & Puducherry

Chennai, Feb 18 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Monday demanded statehood for both the national capital and Puducherry, saying people in these two union territories should not be discriminated against.

Kejriwal, who was here en route to Puducherry to express solidarity with Chief Minister V Narayanaswamy -locked in a turf war with Lt Governor Kiran Bedi- alleged that the situation in the two union territories was the same.

India: Judge asks accused to plant 50 trees, for granting bail

New Delhi, Feb 18 (PTI) A man facing prosecution in a molestation case has been asked by the Delhi High Court to plant 50 trees in a government school here while granting him anticipatory bail.

Justice Sunil Gaur said the principal of the school shall ensure that the tree plantation drive takes place and the investigating officer will file a compliance report in the court.

Australian woman found not guilty of drug, weapons charges in Fiji

SUVA, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- The wife of former Australian horse trainer John Nikolic has been freed from custody in Fiji after she was found not guilty of drugs and weapons charges on Monday.

Yvette Nikolic and her husband John have been on trial in Fiji's capital Suva and had pleaded not guilty to five charges related to the import of drugs and possession of drugs and firearms without a license.

On last Friday, lawyers for Yvette Nikolic submitted a "no case to answer" application to Justice Daniel Goundar.

Canadian man arrested with illegal drugs in Fiji raid

SUVA, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- A 24-year-old Canadian national allegedly found in possession of illicit drugs has been further remanded in police custody in Fiji on Monday after appearing in the Magistrates Court.

Joshua Aziz Rahman has been charged with one count of being in unlawful possession of 39.5 kg of cocaine.

Rahman was arrested after a raid in Suva last week where Fijian police discovered the bars of white powder.

The cocaine bars are worth more than 31 million Fijian dollars (14.5 million U.S. dollars).

"The Wandering Earth" takes second place in China's all-time box office

SHANGHAI, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese sci-fi blockbuster "The Wandering Earth" has taken second place in China's all-time box office as of Sunday afternoon, according to Maoyan, a professional box office tracker.

The film, released on Feb. 5, earned over 3.7 billion yuan (about 547 million U.S. dollars) as of 4:00 p.m. Saturday, surpassing Operation Red Sea to become the second most successful film in the Chinese box office.

Delhi court holds man guilty of raping US citizen

New Delhi, Feb 16 (PTI) A man has been held guilty of digital rape of a US citizen by a Delhi court, which said her testimony could not be said to be unreliable as she came all the way from her country to depose in the case.

When someone rapes a person using their finger or fingers it is termed as digital rape.

India: 2 Youth Congress workers hacked to death in Kerala

Kasargod, Feb 17 (PTI) Two Youth Congress workers were allegedly hacked to death by unidentified assailants in the northern district of Kasargod late Sunday night, a senior police official said.

The incident took place at around 8 pm and the deceased were identified as Kripesh and Sarath Lal (24), the official told PTI.

Merkel says US calling European cars a threat is 'frightening'

Munich, Feb 16 (AFP) German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Saturday labelled as "frightening" tough US trade rhetoric planning to declare European car imports a national security threat.

"If these cars... suddenly spell a threat to US national security, than that is frightening to us," she said.

"All I can say is it would be good if we could resume proper talks with one another," she said at the Munich Security Conference.

"Then we will find a solution."
