UN SC will never pass one-sided resolution on Venezuela - Russian diplomat

PARIS, February 13. /TASS/. One-sided resolution, hostile to Venezuela’s legitimate government, will never be approved by the UN Security Council, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told reporters during his visit to Paris on Tuesday.

"As I understand, we don’t even have a clear understanding by all Security Council members of stances taken by leading actors, including the US, let alone a common consolidated text [of a resolution] that would be acceptable to everyone in this or that form," he said.

Venezuela to increase oil output by 1 million barrels — Maduro

BEIRUT, February 13. /TASS/. The Venezuelan government plans to increase oil output by more than 1 million barrels, President Nicolas Maduro told Al Mayadeen TV channel on Wednesday.

"We are using difficulties that resulted from sanctions to create a modern, self-sustainable economy, and call upon investors from Arabic and Islamic countries to invest their money into developing the oil and gas industry," Maduro said.

According to the Venezuelan president, the country's government "plans to triple gold mining rates, as well as production of aluminum and other metals."

Russia stands for expanding developing countries’ representation in UN Security Council

SOCHI, February 13. /TASS/. The UN Security Council should be reformed by expanding the representation of developing countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America as a matter of priority, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a joint press conference after negotiations with his Lesotho’s counterpart Lesego Makgothi on Wednesday.

As Russia’s top diplomat said, the sides discussed the reformation of the UN Security Council.

India: Gang steals container load of mobile phones

Amaravati,Feb 13 (PTI) A gang of suspected interstate robbers has stolen a container load of cellular phones, estimated to be worth Rs 4 crore, in SPS Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, police said Wednesday.

The gang, comprising more than three members, waylaid the container-laden truck on the National Highway-16 near Dagadarthi in Nellore late Tuesday night and forcibly drove it away by kidnapping the driver, they said.

Hundreds of thousands petition to move 'bullied' ape Bili out of Germany

14 Feb 2019; DW: Hundreds of thousands of people from around the world have signed two petitions calling on a German zoo to return Bili, a bonobo ape who was being "bullied" by fellow apes, to the United Kingdom.

The petitions, which have gathered more than 400,000 signatures, call on the authorities at the zoo in the western German city of Wuppertal to release Bili to an ape sanctuary in the UK.

British banned poem on Jallianwala massacre now in English

New Delhi, Feb 14 (PTI) A poem on the Jallianwala Bagh massacre by acclaimed Punjabi writer Nanak Singh which was banned by the British after its publication in 1920 has now been translated into English.

Singh was present at Jallianwala Bagh on April 13, 1919. He was 22 years old at the time. As the British troops opened fire on the unarmed gathering protesting against the Rowlatt Act, killing hundreds, Singh fainted and his unconscious body was piled up among the corpses.

Google to invest 13 bln USD in U.S. data centers

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Google will make a new investment of more than 13 billion U.S. dollars in data centers across the United States in 2019, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said Wednesday.

Pichai said the new investment is expected to allow the company to hire tens of thousands of workers and create more than 10,000 new construction jobs in many states including Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, Texas and Oklahoma, Pichai said.

With the new funding, Google will "have a home in 24 total states, including data centers in 13 communities," Pichai said.

Iranian FM says anti-Iran meeting in Poland to fail

TEHRAN, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said here Wednesday that the anti-Iran meeting in the Polish capital Warsaw is "doomed to fail," semi-official ISNA news agency reported.

"This is another attempt by the United States to pursue its policies vis-a-vis Iran, which has not been forged properly," Zarif was quoted as saying.

"In my eyes, Warsaw meeting is doomed to fail from the very start," he said. "I think they would not be able to issue a joint statement."

Lawmaker rules out ‘Crimea’s return’ for abolishment of US’ sanctions

MOSCOW, February 13. /TASS/. Chairman of the State Duma Committee for Foreign Affairs Leonid Slutsky stated that Crimea’s accession to Russia is closed and ruled out the return of the peninsula to Ukraine in exchange for the abolishment of the US sanctions.

"The issue of Crimea’s territorial sovereignty is closed. The return of the peninsula to Ukraine in exchange for the abolishment of the US’ anti-Russian sanctions is out of the question," Slutsky told journalists on Wednesday, commenting on the statements made by US Deputy Representative to the UN Jonathan Cohen.
