Turkey tells China to close Muslim 'concentration camps'

10 Feb 2019; DW: Turkey's foreign ministry has called on China to end the mass detention of its Muslim Uighur minority and shut down a network of "concentration camps" in the country's northwest.

"The policy of systematic assimilation against the Uighur Turks carried out by the authorities of China is a great shame for humanity," foreign ministry spokesman Hami Aksoy said in a statement on Saturday.

US and Russia push rival UN resolutions on Venezuela

10 Feb 2019; DW: The United States is seeking a United Nations Security Council resolution calling on Venezuela to conduct free, fair and credible presidential elections with international observers.

The US move has prompted Russia to propose a rival resolution, essentially raising concerns over outside interference in Venezuela's internal affairs.

Fatah slams Israeli settler calls for Abbas' death

RAMALLAH, 10 Feb 2019; AA: Palestinian group Fatah on Sunday decried calls by Israeli settlers for the assassination of President Mahmoud Abbas.

"The Israeli incitement is the result of the policy of hatred practiced by the Israeli government against the Palestinians," Fatah spokesman Osama al-Qawasmi said in a statement.

U.S. to hold high-level consultation in Beijing from Feb. 14 to 15

BEIJING, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Liu He will hold a new round of high-level China-U.S. economic and trade consultation with U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin in Beijing from Feb. 14 to 15.

Building on the recent consultation in Washington, the two sides will have further discussion on issues of common concern.

The U.S. delegation will arrive in Beijing on Feb. 11.

Dem Sen Elizabeth Warren announces bid for U.S. presidency

Syrian girls attacked in Berlin, racism suspected

10 Feb 2019; DW: A man spouting racist insults allegedly confronted two Syrian teenagers in northeastern Berlin and punched them in the face, authorities said Saturday.

He hit the girls, aged 15 and 16, "with his fist several times ... before fleeing into a shopping arcade," police alleged in a statement. Both girls were taken to hospital for treatment.

Indian Citizenship Bill: protests continue in Manipur

Imphal, Feb 9 (PTI) Markets were closed and effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others were burnt and roads were blocked as protests against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) continued across Manipur on Saturday.

Vendors of the Khwairamband Market here, considered the largest women's market in the world, was also closed as they rendered their support to the on-going protest demanding withdrawal of the CAB.
