Russian diplomat blasts US State Department for spreading ‘fake news’

MOSCOW, November 8. /TASS/. The US Department of State is churning out fake news against Russia on an industrial scale while US President Donald Trump is fighting bogus news stories in the American media, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.

"While the US president is fighting fake news on CNN, he apparently does not notice in the heat of the struggle that his subordinates in his administration just continue to generate them, these bogus stories are already on an industrial level now," the Russian diplomat said.

Pakistan seizes Indian and other DTH worth Rs 7.83 cr

Islamabad, Nov 8 (PTI) Pakistan authorities have seized smuggled Indian and other Direct-To-Home (DTH) equipment worth Rs 7.83 crore from various markets in a nation-wide crack down against the illegal devices, revealed a report.

The report was submitted to the Supreme Court on Wednesday after it took up a suo motu case relating to easy availability of Indian DTH or magic box in the Pakistani market.

The DTH Satellite TV is the latest technology to deliver digital TV satellite service to households.

11 shot at Southern California bar

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) - A sheriff’s captain says at least 11 people — including a responding deputy — were shot late Wednesday when a suspect opened fire in a Southern California bar filled with college students.

Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Garo Kuredjian said at a news conference early Thursday that the wounded sheriff’s deputy was taken to a hospital. He could not immediately provide information on the extent of the victims’ injuries or if any others had been hospitalized.

Runaway mining train travels 90 km without driver

7 Nov 2018; AFP: A huge runaway train laden with iron ore had to be derailed remotely after speeding through the Australian outback for almost an hour.

The 268-wagon train started on its solo journey when the driver got down from his cab to carry out an inspection, and was soon hurtling along at up to 110 kilometres (68 miles) per hour.

Australia to block Chinese $9 billion energy takeover bid

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — The Australian government on Wednesday warned it intends to block a Hong Kong and Chinese consortium’s 13 billion Australian dollar ($9 billion) takeover bid for an energy infrastructure company because it conflicts with Australia’s national interest.

The CK Consortium needed approval of Australia’s Foreign Investment Review Board to take over APA Group, which owns more than 43,700 kilometers (27,100 miles) of gas pipeline in Australia.

Heathrow travelers warned of delays after lighting issues

LONDON (AP) — Heathrow Airport is warning passengers to check their flight status after problems with runway lighting caused disruption.

Europe’s largest airport said Wednesday that the problem had been resolved by 6:05 a.m GMT (12:05 a.m. EST) and that both runways are now open and operational. But travelers should check, as delays are expected throughout the morning.

Some flights were delayed up to three hours, and the problem left some London-bound travelers stranded on U.S. tarmacs.

Heathrow said in a statement that its engineering teams are investigating.
