Turkish wrestler wins gold in European championships

14 Apr 2019; AA: Turkey's Atakan Yuksel won a gold medal in the 2019 European Wrestling Championships in Romania on Sunday. 

Competing in the men's 67-kg Greco-Roman category, Yuksel beat Polish competitor Gevorg Sahakyan 5-1 to claim the medal in the tournament in Bucharest.

So far, Turkey has won two golds, one silver and two bronze medals in the Greco-Roman category at the tournament.

India: Walsh gives bowling tips to young cricketers

Kanpur: In order to prepare fast bowlers in Uttar Pradesh, Courtney Walsh, former fast bowler of West Indies gave tips to budding cricket players in a 15-day bowling training camp here on Monday morning. 

Interacting with the young players, the big name in the cricket world suggested them the initial informations about the fast bowling. He pointed out that a bowler's laxity beneits the batsman fully. Through the video clips he made them clear how to improve over errors. 

India: Green Park to have new facilities

KANPUR: City’s famous Green Park is going to be equipped with various new features in next to no time. Like the cricket match, the football matches will also be played under the milky lights which would help the fans enjoy the matches during the night. The Central UP Gas Limited, a joint venture between GAIL (India) and Bharat Petroleum has agreed to install such lights at the stadium.

Japanese Olympic Committee head resigns amid bribery scandal

TOKYO (AP) — Tsunekazu Takeda is stepping down as the president of the Japanese Olympic Committee amid a vote-buying scandal that French investigators suspect helped Tokyo land next year’s Olympics.

Takeda announced Tuesday at the committee’s executive board meeting that he will resign when his term ends in June, and he again denied corruption allegations against him.

New Zealand rugby's Crusaders to mull name change after mosque massacre

18 Mar 2019; AFP: New Zealand's Canterbury Crusaders rugby team said they would consult with the Muslim community about a potential change of name after criticism following Friday's massacre at two mosques in their home city of Christchurch.

The name of the reigning Super Rugby champions has been questioned in the past, but the club said "we understand the concerns that have been raised" after the mass shooting, which left 50 people dead.

Brunei holds int'l kite festival to revive traditional past time

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah officially launched the International Kite Festival on Sunday with some 200 kiting enthusiasts expected to participate in the event.

The Sultan made his way to the Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas, a riverfront public park in the capital, where he inaugurated the event before trying his hand at flying one kite. He also toured the exhibits and mingled with the crowd.

K T Irfan - first Indian athlete to qualify for Tokyo Olympics

New Delhi, Mar 17; PTI/GANASHAKTI: National record holder KT Irfan Sunday became the first Indian from athletics to qualify for the next year's Olympics while finishing fourth in the 20 km event of the Asian Race Walking Championships in Nomi, Japan.

The 29-year-old Irfan clocked 1 hour 20 minutes and 57 seconds to better the Tokyo Olympics qualification standard of 1 hour 21 minutes.

India to host FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in 2020

New Delhi, Mar 16 (PTI) India will host the U-17 Women's World Cup in 2020, International Football Federation (FIFA) President Gianni Infantino announced.

"We are delighted to announce that India has been confirmed as the host of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in 2020," Infantino said after the FIFA Council meeting in Miami, USA on Friday.

This will be the second FIFA tournament India will be hosting, after the U-17 Men's World Cup in 2017.

Bangladesh cricketers escape terrorist attack in NZ mosque, tour called off

Christchurch, Mar 15; PTI: The Bangladesh cricket team's tour of New Zealand was Friday called off after the players had a narrow escape from a shooting attack on a mosque here, described as an "unprecedented act of violence" by the country's Prime Minister Jacinda Arden.

The attack on the Masjid Al Noor mosque in Hagley Park killed several people, the local media reported.
