We could have applied ourselves better, says Kohli

Birmingham, Aug 4 (PTI) India skipper Virat Kohli today rued the lack of application and poor shot selection by his batsmen after their meek surrender paved the way for an England victory in the opening Test here.

The hosts drew first blood in the five-match series with a 31-run win at the Edgbaston.

Chasing 194, Kohli stood out again with a combative 51 but lacked support at the other end, as India were all out for 162.

Kapil yet to get formal invite, says will attend Imran's swearing-in if he gets one

Bengaluru, Aug 4 (PTI) Former India captain Kapil Dev today said he is yet to get a formal invite from Pakistan Prime Minister-in-waiting Imran Khan to attend his swearing-in ceremony though he has been informally communicated to be present at the event.

"I have been invited, but not in writing. I got a call from his team, but I haven't received any mail yet. I am waiting for a formal invite," Kapil told reporters on the sidelines of Lousi Phillepe Celebrity Pro Am, an international Professional Golf tournament, here.

India suffer heartbreaking loss in series opener

Birmingham, Aug 4 (PTI) India suffered a heartbreaking 31-run loss to England as skipper Virat Kohli's heroics went in vain amid yet another abject batting capitulation in a riveting opening Test at the Edgbaston today.

It was virtually Kohli versus England and when the Indian captain was trapped lbw off Ben Stokes in the 47th over, the absorbing game was only heading the home team's way.

Kohli is not invincible, slip catching let us down: Anderson

Birmingham, Aug 4 (PTI) England pacer James Anderson says Virat Kohli is not "invincible" and poor slip fielding from his team mates has allowed the Indian skipper to get off the hook in the first innings of the opening cricket Test here.

It was an engrossing duel between Test cricket's second most successful pacer, Anderson and Kohli on the second day when the Indian skipper was dropped twice off the bowler on 21 and 51 by Dawid Malan.

Love for cricket helped me fight off-field problems: Shami

Birmingham, Aug 2 (PTI) Indian pacer Mohammed Shami says his love for cricket helped him battle the off field problems that pegged him back a few months ago as he made an impressive comeback in the ongoing first Test against England here.

On the opening day of the first Test here, Shami took 2-64 while R Ashwin returned with figures of 4 for 60 to help India restrict England to 285-9.

The 2018 Tank Biathlon contest is underway in Russia as part of the 4th International Army Games.

Russia’s team finished first on the second day of the international Tank Biathlon competition. Teams from Serbia and Iran finished second and third, respectively.

The Games are being held on 24 training grounds in seven countries in a period from July 28 through August 11. Taking part are 189 teams from 32 world nations. The program includes competitions in 28 disciplines.

Brazil beat Mexico 2-0 to qualify for World Cup quarter-finals

AFP; Samara (Russia), Jul 2 : Neymar and Roberto Firmino scored the goals as Brazil beat Mexico 2-0 here today to reach the World Cup quarter-finals, where they will play Belgium or Japan.

The opening goal came in the 51st minute, when Neymar slid in to convert Willian's cross, and substitute Firmino scored a late second to seal the win as Neymar turned provider.
