Russian, Greek diplomats discuss pandemic, assistance in repatriating their nationals

MOSCOW, May 8. /TASS/: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Greek counterpart Nikos Dendias discussed in a phone call on Thursday moves to mitigate the social and economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic as well as assistance in repatriating nationals of their countries, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.

Moscow court extends house arrest for Michael Calvey until August 13

MOSCOW, April 30. /TASS/: The Moscow City Court has ruled to extend to extend the term of house arrest for Michael Calvey, founder of the Baring Vostok private equity firm, who is accused of embezzlement, until August 13, an official with the court’s press service told TASS.

"By the request of the investigation, the term of house arrest for Michael Calvey has been extended until August 13," the official said.

Russian Pres Putin warns against hurrying to lift corona restrictions

MOSCOW, May 7 (NNN-AGENCIES) — President Vladimir Putin said Russia should not rush to lift coronavirus-related restrictions, warning that any haste in removing preventative measures could undo their work so far.

Putin said governors would have the responsibility of deciding how to proceed in their own regions.

The country’s coronavirus crisis response centre said earlier on Wednesday that the number of cases had risen by more than 10,000 for a fourth consecutive day and now stood at 165,929.

Russia has recorded 1,537 coronavirus-related deaths.

Russia to float out new sub to carry Poseidon nuke drone in late June — source

MOSCOW, May 7. /TASS/: The second submarine to serve as a basic carrier of Russia’s Poseidon nuclear-capable underwater drones will be floated out approximately in late June, a defense industry source told TASS on Thursday.

"The Khabarovsk [Project 09852] will be floated out in late June at the earliest. There is no exact date so far," the source said.

The Russian Navy’s press service did not comment on the information. The Sevmash shipyard where the submarine is being built was not immediately available for a comment.

Russian watchdog proposes lifting COVID-19 restrictions in 3 stages

MOSCOW, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Anna Popova, head of Russia's consumer rights and human well-being watchdog Rospotrebnadzor, proposed Wednesday to lift COVID-19 restrictions in three stages.

Popova unveiled her plan at an online conference with President Vladimir Putin and other officials on the implementation of measures to support the economy and social sphere.

At the first stage, people may be allowed to engage in outdoor sports and small businesses may be reopened, she said.

Number of coronavirus cases found in Russian Armed Forces up to 1,475, says ministry

MOSCOW, May 5. /TASS/: The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the Russian Armed Forces totals 1,475 people in the period from March to May 5, the Ministry of Defense said in its bulletin released on Tuesday. On Monday, the ministry reported about 1,384 cases among servicemen.

"As many as 1,475 servicemen with positive results were found during the 100% (coronavirus) screening in the Russian Armed Forces from March to May 4 of this year," the ministry said.

Russia: Brent crude oil price up above $31 per barrel first since April 14

MOSCOW, May 5. /TASS/: The price of futures contracts of Brent crude oil for July 2020 delivery gained 14.12% to $31.04 per barrel on London's ICE on Tuesday, according to the trading data as of 9:19 pm Moscow time.

The price of Brent crude oil was last above $31 per barrel on April 14, 2020.

The price of futures contracts of WTI is up by 16.24% at $26.48 per barrel.

 

Russian business ombudsman hopes businesses to resume work on May 12

MOSCOW, May 5. /TASS/: Russian business ombudsman Boris Titov expects that enterprises, including restaurants, shops and museums that had to close due to the coronavirus pandemic to resume operations from mid-May. He said this on Tuesday during an online broadcast.

"I hope that starting May 12-15, part of the businesses will start to resume their operation. This applies to certain restaurants, shops, museums, exhibitions, sightseeing sites. They will be allowed to resume work on condition they observe special regulations," he said.
