Russian doctors, nurses face more risks as virus cases grow

MOSCOW (AP) — A patient who had routine surgery at a hospital in St. Petersburg suddenly developed a fever after an operation. Doctors insisted on testing him for coronavirus and results showed that he had it.

And so did the Russian doctors, nurses and other patients who had unwittingly come in contact with him.

RUSSIA: Gazprom expects decline in revenues in 2020

MOSCOW, April 27. /TASS/: Gazprom notes a significant decline in revenues because of plummeted gas supplies, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Russian gas holding Vitaly Markelov said on Monday.

"I understand that we are in a rather challenging situation now in terms of regional budgeting but I would like to say this year is fairly challenging for the company also. We will have a significant drop in respect of the revenue portion because the volume of gas supplies goes down," Markelov said.

Russia overtakes China in COVID-19 cases

MOSCOW, April 27. /TASS/: Russia has confirmed 6,198 new coronavirus cases over the past day, bringing the total number in the country to 87,147 in all regions, the anti-coronavirus crisis center reported on Monday.

Russia overtook China for the number of confirmed coronavirus cases, where 84,500 cases have been recorded to date.

Russia: Kremlin says talk about oil output drop possible only after OPEC+ deal enters into force

MOSCOW, April 27. /TASS/: Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov urged to wait until the OPEC+ deal enters into force before talking about the continued decline in oil production, he told reporters on Monday.

"At the moment, we have to wait until May 1 - the time when the [OPEC+] deal will enter into force, evaluate the first results of this deal," Peskov said, answering a question about whether Russia and Saudi Arabia are discussing continued decline in oil production.

Russian Navy sub embarks on deployment to Mediterranean Sea

MOSCOW, April 27. /TASS/: The Black Sea Fleet’s Project 636.3 diesel-electric submarine Rostov-on-Don has embarked on its deployment in distant waters and will soon join the Russian Navy’s permanent Mediterranean task force, a source in the domestic defense industry told TASS on Monday.

"The Rostov-on-Don has set off for its long-distance deployment to the Mediterranean Sea. The submarine is expected to transit the Black Sea straits this evening," the source said.

RUSSIA: Kremlin says decision on extending coronavirus lockdown to be made based on current pace

MOSCOW, April 27./TASS/: The decision on extending coronavirus self-isolation rules will be passed based on the current pace of the spread of coronavirus, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Monday.

"Evidently, a decision has to be made based on the current trend or on some short-term forecasts. Middle-term or the long-term forecasts are hardly possible. Therefore, giving some timeframes now would be like a shot in the dark," the Kremlin spokesman said when asked for how long the self-isolation regime for Russian citizens could be extended.

Russia-US strategic dialogue on space hardly possible — expert

MOSCOW, April 26. /TASS/: A dialogue between Russia and the United States on activities in space is hardly possible, Research Director of the Valdai Discussion Club Foundation for Development and Support Fyodor Lukyanov told TASS on Saturday.

"I don’t see what the US interest in negotiating with Russia on space could be," he said. "It seems to me that meaningful talks on strategically important directions are ruled out at the moment. At this point and in the foreseeable future, the entire agenda will shift in another direction."

About 1.7 million people affected by Chernobyl nuclear disaster in Russia — ministry

MOSCOW, April 26. /TASS/: More than 1.7 million people, living in Russia, have been exposed to radiation as a result of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster, the Russian emergencies ministry’s press service told TASS.

"Out of the 1.7 million residents of Russia, exposed to radiation as a result of the disaster at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, 1.5 million are residents of radiation-polluted territories in 14 regions of the country or those who resettled from those areas to other zones. Other 125,000 people took part in the post-disaster relief effort," the ministry said.
