Putin says Russia will produce new missiles after demise of nuclear pact

VLADIVOSTOK, Russia (Reuters) - President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that Russia would produce missiles that were banned under a landmark Cold-War era nuclear pact that ended last month, but that Moscow would not deploy them unless the United States did so first.

Speaking at an economic forum in Russia’s Far East, Putin said he was concerned by U.S. talk of deploying missiles in Japan and South Korea, a deployment he said would cover parts of Russian territory.

VLADIVOSTOK, Russia (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin told his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe on Thursday that Tokyo’s military ties with the United States and many other issues made it hard for Japan and Russia to sign a World War Two peace treaty.

Putin made the comment at an economic forum in Russia’s Far East after Abe called on him to resolve a row between the countries over a disputed chain of islands that has prevented the two countries signing a peace treaty.

Indian PM Modi meets Malaysian PM Mahathir in Russia

Vladivostok, Sep 5 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met his Malaysian counterpart Mahathir Mohamad and the two leaders discussed ways to diversify the bilateral ties to benefit people in both the countries.

Prime Minister Modi met the Malaysian Prime Minister on the sidelines of the fifth meeting of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) held here in the Russian Far East Region.

Malaysia not threatened by Chinese, US military presence in the region: Mahathir

VLADIVOSTOK, Sept 5 (NNN-SPUTNIK) — Malaysia does not feel threatened by the US plans to deploy missiles in the Asia-Pacific region or by Chinese warships there, but it is worried about potential accidents, its prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, told Sputnik news agency in an interview.

In August, US Secretary of Defence Mark Esper said he would like to deploy medium-range missiles in Asia, adding, however, that this could take a long time.

Mahathir, Putin looking to stronger bilateral ties

VLADIVOSTOK (Russia), Sept 5 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Dr Mahathir and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Summit (EES) where both leaders discussed efforts to further strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.

During the 30-minute discussion in the port city overlooking Golden Horn Bay, near the borders with China and North Korea, they also spoke about trade and innovation.

Mahathir and Putin previously met on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit held in Singapore last year.

Russian State Duma foreign interference commission to invite Deutsche Welle to its session

MOSCOW, September 4. /TASS/: The Russian State Duma (lower house of parliament) Commission on Foreign Interference in Russia’s Internal Affairs will invite the leadership of German media outlet Deutsche Welle to one of its sessions, head of the commission Vasily Piskarev told reporters on Wednesday.

According to him, the commission plans to "address the leadership, the management with a request to attend" the commission’s meeting. "We will be happy to receive them, and we will get the answers to the questions that interest us," the MP added.

Foreign Ministry seeks to thwart foreign meddling in Russia’s domestic affairs

India orders $14.5 billion worth of weapons from Russia

VLADIVOSTOK, September 4. /TASS/: India has ordered from Russia a total of $14.5 billion worth of weapons and other military equipment, the chief of the federal service for military-technical cooperation, Dmitry Shugayev, said on Wednesday.

"Last year and today saw the emergence of a tremendous portfolio of contracts in contrast to all previous years, $14.5 billion. This is an impressive figure, it’s a real breakthrough," Shugayev told the media on Wednesday.

Russian legislator to meet with US senator at upper house this week

MOSCOW, September 4. /TASS/: Chairman of the Russian Federation Council Foreign Affairs Committee Konstantin Kosachev will hold a meeting with US Senator Michael Lee (R-Utah) on September 6, a spokesman for the upper house told TASS.

"Kosachev will meet with Michael Lee at the Federation Council on Friday," the spokesman said.

The meeting will be held at the US senator’s initiative, Kosachev told TASS. "The senator’s trip to Moscow is the American’s initiative. Certainly, he accepted the proposal for a meeting at the Federation Council," he said.
