Update: Azerbaijan army enters district handed over by Armenia

BAKU, Nov 20 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Azerbaijan’s army said Friday it had entered the district of Aghdam, the first of three to be handed back by Armenia as part of a Russian-brokered peace deal to end fighting in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

“Units of the Azerbaijan Army entered the Aghdam region on Nov 20,”
Azerbaijan’s defence ministry said of the district, which had been controlled by Armenian separatists for nearly 30 years.

Azeri leader says Russian, Turkish forces to take part in Karabakh security provision

BAKU, November 18. /TASS/: The Russian and Turkish military personnel will take part in operations to provide security for Azerbaijanis and Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev said on Wednesday.

All the countries of the region supported the joint statement by the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia on the ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh, Aliyev said.

Ethnic Armenians burn homes, trees before withdrawing from Azerbaijan

16 Nov 2020; MEMO: Ethnic Armenian have set fire to their homes in the Kalbajar district in Azerbaijan ahead of their planned withdrawal from the region following a ceasefire agreement signed under Russia auspices.

Russian news sites and social media reported on Saturday images of Armenians setting fire to their homes before leaving them and sabotaging public facilities in the province including schools and trees.

Azerbaijan, Armenia exchange bodies of soldiers

14 Nov 2020; MEMO: Azerbaijan and Armenia on Saturday exchanged the bodies of soldiers, who died in the clashes around the city of Susha in Upper Karabakh region, the Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry said, Anadolu Agency reports.

In a statement, the ministry said the bodies of soldiers were collected through the intermediary and participation of the Russian peacekeeping forces stationed in the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan announces capture of Karabakh's second-largest city, Armenia denies it

BAKU/YEREVAN (Reuters) - Azeris celebrated on the streets of Baku after President Ilham Aliyev said on Sunday his country’s forces had taken Shusha, the second-largest city in the Nagorno-Karabakh enclave, but Armenian officials denied the city had been captured.

Shusha, which Armenians call Shushi, is of cultural and strategic importance to both sides and is located 15 km (9 miles) south of the enclave’s largest city Stepanakert.

Azerbaijan: Combat operations continue along front line

30 Oct 2020; MEMO: Combat operations continued Thursday along the front line a month after border clashes erupted between Armenia and Azerbaijan, according to local authorities, Anadolu Agency reports.

Over the past day and night, Armenian forces fired on the positions of units of the Azerbaijani army and civilian settlements with weapons including artillery and missiles, said Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry.

Azerbaijan will ‘go all the way’ if Armenia does not leave its territories, president says

BAKU, October 26. /TASS/: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that Baku will "go all the way" if Armenia does not leave Azerbaijani territories.

"We will continue on our path. If they want a ceasefire, they should tell Armenia to leave our territories. If this does not happen, we will go all the way," Aliyev said in an address to the nation shown on AzTV state channel on Monday.

Azerbaijan downs another Armenian SU-25 fighter jet

22 Oct 2020; MEMO: Azerbaijan on Sunday shot down another Armenian Su-25 fighter jet, according to the country’s Defense Ministry – the second Su-25 to be downed in as many days, Anadolu Agency reports.

In a statement, the ministry said the Su-25 attack aircraft was trying to launch airstrikes on Azerbaijani positions in the Jabrayil region when it was shot down, like its predecessor on Saturday.

The jet was destroyed by Azerbaijani forces at around 12:30 p.m. (0830GMT), the ministry said.
