TUNIS, June 4 (NNN-XINHUA) — Tunisia dismantled a human trafficking network of eight Tunisians, including five women and a migrant smuggler, in a joint operation, the Tunisian National Guard said.

This network is involved in human trafficking and financing illegal border crossings by sub-Saharan Africans, the Tunisian National Guard said in a statement posted on its Facebook page.

TUNIS, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- World Bank on Wednesday predicted that Tunisia's economy could grow 3 percent in both 2024 and 2025.

The fresh World Bank's Global Economic Prospects report said the 3 percent growth is subject to risks created by the evolution of the drought.

The report also estimated that Tunisia's GDP growth for 2023 at 1.2 percent, a downward revision of 1.1 percent from the June 2023 forecasts.

TUNIS, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- A Traditional Chinese Medicine Center was unveiled on Friday in the Tunisian capital Tunis.

A ceremony was held to mark the establishment of the center, which is located in Mongi Slim Hospital.

The event was attended by the Tunis governorate's Regional Health Director Tarek Ben Nasr, and a Chinese delegation headed by Gong Jianping, director of the Health Commission of China's Jiangxi Province.

TUNIS, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian President Kais Saied said on Monday that all the injured Palestinians admitted to Tunisian hospitals will receive necessary treatment and return in good health to their homeland, according to the Tunisian presidency.

"We will use all the means and capabilities available to help you and those who were injured by the Israeli attack against Gaza," Saied told a Palestinian patient during his visit to one of the Tunisian hospitals receiving injured Palestinians.

TUNIS, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- A joint archaeological excavation operation has been carried out in Tunisia's Ben Arous Forest archaeological site since the end of October, Yu Fei, head of the Chinese operation team, said on Thursday.

Yu, who is from China's national archaeological research center under the National Cultural Heritage Administration (NCHA), told Xinhua that the excavation site is located in the 12,000-square-meter forest area of Ben Arous province, which used to be a settlement site from the Carthage period to the ancient Roman period.

TUNIS, Sept 19 (NNN-XINHUA) — During the past 24 hours, Tunisian security units arrested 1,200 of different nationalities who planned to cross illegally the Mediterranean to Europe, private radio station Mosaique FM reported on Monday.

“The arrest operations were carried out by National Guard units during a security campaign in the southeastern province of Sfax to stop the illegal immigration waves,” Mosaique FM quoted Houcemeddine Jbabli, spokesman for the Tunisian National Guard, as saying.

TUNIS, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Tunisia has detected the country's first case of new coronavirus variant EG.5, said a Tunisian official on Tuesday.

The infection was found in an infant following genome sequencing at Charles Nicolle Hospital in the capital Tunis, the official news agency Tunis Afrique Presse reported, citing Hechmi Louzir, a member of Tunisia's Scientific Committee to Combat Coronavirus.

05 August 2023; MEMO: Tunisian Security Services have rescued 15,327 illegal migrants during the first half of 2023, Tunisian Interior Minister Kamal Feki announced on Friday.

According to Feki, 95 per cent of the migrants hold African or sub-Saharan identities.

He noted that the security services are carrying out a direct humanitarian follow-up in coordination with the relevant international organisations.

TUNIS, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian President Kais Saied has removed Najla Bouden Romdhane from her post as prime minister and immediately appointed a new head of the government.

Ahmed Hachani, the new prime minister, was already sworn in on Tuesday evening, according to a statement released by the presidency late Tuesday.

Before this appointment, Hachani worked at the Central Bank of Tunisia.

On Sept. 29, 2021, Saied appointed Bouden as prime minister, making her the first woman to lead a government in the North African country. 

TUNIS, Tunisia (AP) — Tunisia’s president has sacked the country’s prime minister, who was the first woman to hold that job in an Arab League nation.

A brief statement from the presidential office late Tuesday did not give reasons for the dismissal of Najla Bouden Ramadhane. President Kais Saied had appointed the engineering school professor as Tunisia’s first female prime minister in September 2021.

Her replacement is retired central bank director Ahmed Hachani, who was sworn in Tuesday night.
