MOGADISHU, May 31 (Xinhua) -- The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) on Sunday in separate statements condemned the abduction and deliberate killing of seven health workers and a civilian at a local health center in southern Somalia.

Henrietta Fore, UNICEF executive director said these heinous attacks interfere with fundamental protections of the right to health and the perpetrators must be held accountable.

MOGADISHU, March 6 (NNN-AFRICANEWS) — The presidents of Somalia and Kenya have in a phone conversation agree to ease recent tensions following a heightened diplomatic row, that informed Kenya warning Somalia against threatening its territorial integrity and sovereignty.

According to Somalia’s presidential communication team, president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and his Kenyan counterpart Uhuru Kenyatta spoke on Thursday morning and agreed to work together to improve border security.

MOGADISHU, Feb 3 (NNN-AFRICANEWS) — Somalia declared the invasion of locusts as a national emergency.

Locusts have devastated food supplies in one of the poorest and most vulnerable regions of the world.

A Sunday statement by Somalia’s Agriculture ministry said the move is due to current upsurge of locusts, which constitute a major threat to the fragile food security in the country.

The statement added that food sources for people and their livestock are under threat.

BERLIN, Jan 24 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Somalia is still ranked the world’s most corrupt country, according to the just released 2019 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI).

The index is published annually by Transparency International (TI) and assesses the perceived levels of public sector corruption in 180 countries.

According to TI, the country’s poor rule of law has created room for everything from “petty bribery to high-level political corruption”.

MOGADISHU (Reuters) - Nine people injured in a bomb attack on Saturday in Somalia, including three Turkish nationals, were being flown to Turkey on Tuesday for medical treatment, Turkey’s ambassador to Mogadishu said.

Mehmet Yilmaz told a news conference that Ankara would continue aid work in the country despite recent attacks by Islamist group al Shabaab that have targeted Turkish workers.

“This will not stop us from helping Somalia,” Yilmaz said. “We shall continue work. Somalia and Turkey have good relations.”

MOGADISHU (Reuters) - Islamist militant group al Shabaab said it was responsible for a bomb blast on Wednesday near the presidential palace and other government buildings in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu that city authorities said had killed three people.

The attack appeared to be part of an intensified campaign over the past two weeks by the al Qaeda ally in Somalia and neighboring Kenya, which have porous borders and often ad hoc methods for sharing intelligence.

MOGADISHU, Dec 30 (NNN-AGENCIES) — A Turkish military cargo plane landed in the Somali capital to evacuate people badly wounded in a devastating truck bombing in the city that killed at least 90 people, including two Turkish nationals.

The plane also brought emergency medical staff and supplies, according to a tweet from the Turkish embassy, adding these had been transferred to a Turkish-run hospital in Mogadishu.
