Newspaper: China to soon try 2 Canadians on spying charges

BEIJING (AP) — A Communist Party newspaper says China will soon begin trials for two Canadians, who were arrested two years ago in apparent retaliation for Canada’s detention of a senior executive for Chinese communications giant Huawei Technologies.

The Global Times said Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor “will soon be tried” after they were charged with “crimes undermining China’s national security” in June 2020.

BEIJING, March 11 (APP): India strongly dreams to become a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) but now it is wantonly violating its resolutions.

Therefore, it has no qualification to be a permanent member of it.

The measure adds to a crackdown against a protest movement in Hong Kong calling for greater democracy. The crackdown has prompted accusations Beijing is eroding the autonomy it promised when the former British colony was returned to China in 1997 and is hurting its status as a global financial center.

China's serious violent crimes drop to two-decade low in 2020

BEIJING, March 8 (Xinhua) -- The number of cases of serious violent crimes in China dropped in 2020 to the lowest level in two decades, according to a work report of the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) unveiled Monday.

The number of criminal cases handled by the SPP last year was also at its lowest level in the past four years, read the report submitted to the ongoing national legislative session for deliberation.
