China backs Russia on condemning US meddling in other nations’ affairs

BEIJING, January 25. /TASS/: China stands in solidarity with the Russian Foreign Ministry position which condemns the US meddling in domestic affairs of other countries, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry Zhao Lijian told a regular briefing Monday when asked to comment on the Russian ministry’s statement regarding the US embassy’s comments.

"China resolutely opposes interference in domestic affairs of sovereign states," the diplomat underscored.

China says U.S. military in South China Sea not good for peace

BEIJING (Reuters) - The United States often sends ships and aircraft into the South China Sea to “flex its muscles” and this is not good for peace, China’s Foreign Ministry said on Monday, after a U.S. aircraft carrier group sailed into the disputed waterway.

The strategic South China Sea, through which trillions of dollars in trade flows each year, has long been a focus of contention between Beijing and Washington, with China particularly angered by U.S. military activity there.

US reaffirms Taiwan support after China sends warplanes

BEIJING (AP) — The U.S. has reaffirmed support for Taiwan following China’s dispatch of warplanes near the island in an apparent attempt to intimidate its democratic government and test American resolve.

The State Department on Saturday said it “notes with concern the pattern of ongoing (China’s) attempts to intimidate its neighbors, including Taiwan.”

Trapped for 2 weeks, 11 workers rescued from China gold mine

BEIJING (AP) — Eleven workers trapped for two weeks by an explosion inside a Chinese gold mine were brought safely to the surface on Sunday.

State broadcaster CCTV showed workers being hauled up one-by-one in baskets on Sunday afternoon, their eyes shielded to protect them after so many days in darkness.

One worker was reported to have died from a head wound following the blast that deposited massive amounts of rubble in the shaft on Jan. 10 while the mine was still under construction.

Russia becomes second largest oil exporter to China in 2020

BEIJING, January 20. /TASS/: Russia in 2020 ranked second after Saudi Arabia in the list of the largest oil suppliers to China. According to the General Customs Administration of China, in 12 months Beijing purchased more than 83.57 mln tonnes of oil from Moscow.

According to the report, the price of oil purchased from Russia exceeded $27.3 bln. Similar figures for Saudi suppliers amounted to 84.92 mln tonnes and $28.05 bln, respectively.

China: Concerns grow over global disparities in vaccination

BEIJING, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- As an increasing number of countries started mass vaccination, gaps in access to COVID-19 vaccines, especially huge disparities between the developed world and developing world, have become glaringly evident.

Workers trapped week in China mine ask for pickles, porridge

BEIJING (AP) — Workers trapped for more than a week in a Chinese gold mine asked for pickles and porridge to be dropped to them while they wait to be rescued, state media reported Tuesday.

The website of the People’s Daily said the request came after a telephone line was dropped to the group of 11 inside the mine’s No. 6 chamber. Another survivor of the mine explosion a week ago is inside an adjoining chamber while the fate of 10 others remains unknown, according to officials in the city of Yantai in the eastern province of Shandong.
