Markets mixed after Trump-Biden debate; data lifts China

(AP) --- Stocks were mixed in Asia on Wednesday after the debate between President Donald Trump and his Democratic challenger Joe Biden, with little sign the clash did much to sway investors.

Hong Kong and Shanghai led regional gains while Japan’s Nikkei 225 declined. Overnight, the S&P 500 lost 0.5% as heavy selling of banks helped reverse some of the gains the market a day earlier.

Pakistan to participate in Silk Road International Film Festival to be held in Xi’an

BEIJING, Sept 29 (APP): Pakistan will participate in the 7th Silk Road International Film Festival, under the guidance of China Film Administration, to be held from Oct. 11 to 16 in Xi’an, capital city of northwest China’s Shaanxi province.

Co-sponsored by Shaanxi Provincial People’s Government and Fujian Provincial People’s Government with the theme “Silk Road Links the World, Film Connects Cultures,” the festival will feature six major events including film screening, film forum and film market, according to China Daily.

Asian stocks mixed after Wall St rally ahead of US debate

(AP) --- Asian stocks were mixed Tuesday after Wall Street recovered some of this month’s losses as investors looked ahead to a debate between President Donald Trump and his challenger in the November election, Joe Biden.

Shanghai, Seoul and Tokyo advanced Hong Kong and Sydney declined.

Overnight, Wall Street’s benchmark S&P 500 index gained 1.6%, led by big tech stocks.

Remains of 117 Chinese soldiers killed in Korean War returned

SHENYANG, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- The remains of 117 Chinese soldiers killed in the 1950-53 Korean War were returned to China on Sunday from the Republic of Korea (ROK).

It is the seventh such repatriation following a handover agreement signed by the two countries. The remains of 599 soldiers were returned to China from the ROK between 2014 and 2019.

Pakistani students take online Chinese Proficiency Test to pursue research dreams

BEIJING, Sep 26 (APP): Sichuan Normal University (SICNU), China has held the first online Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) or Chinese Proficiency Test amid the COVID-19 outbreak for international students to pursue their research dreams.

As per Liu Tianhao, a Pakistani student from SICNU, the Chinese Proficiency Test empowered him to explore China, according to China Economic Net (CEN) on Saturday.

He said, “Mastering local languages will enrich your experience in foreign countries. “Each language is beautiful with its history and content, so are Urdu and Chinese,” he added.

China pushes emergency use of COVID vaccine despite concerns

BEIJING, Sep 24 (APP): A special flight – PK-8554 of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) carrying 232 Pakistani passengers left from Shuangliu International Airport, Chengdu, China to Islamabad on Thursday evening.

In view of the disruption of commercial flight operations, it was ninth special flight of the national flag carrier to transport Pakistani nationals from China to back home, according to Qadir Bux Sangi, PIA Country Manager for China.

All possible arrangements were made at the airport to facilitate the passengers of special flight, he told APP.

Ambassador Haque briefs China Investment Magazine delegation about CPEC’s current status

BEIJING, Sept 24 (APP): Pakistan Ambassador to China, Moin ul Haque briefed a delegation of China Investment Magazine about Pakistan and China bilateral relations especially the current status of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) which he termed as the flagship project of BRI and a strong symbol of China Pakistan strong ties.
