BEIJING (AP) — Two months after U.S.-Chinese talks aimed at ending a tariff war broke down, both sides are trying to temper hopes for a breakthrough when negotiations resume Tuesday on an array of disputes that has grown to include tension over Chinese tech giant Huawei.

Rhetoric on both sides has hardened despite the agreement by Presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping in June to revive efforts to end the costly fight over China’s technology ambitions and trade surplus.

Protesters wearing all black streamed through the Yuen Long area, even though police refused to grant permission for the march, citing risks of confrontations between demonstrators and local residents.

27 July 2019; AFP: Crowds of Hong Kong protesters defied a police ban on Saturday and began gathering in a town close to the Chinese border to rally against suspected triad gangs who beat up pro-democracy demonstrators there last weekend.

Public anger has been raging since last Sunday when a gang of men in white t-shirts, armed with poles and batons, set upon anti-government protesters and bystanders in Yuen Long station, leaving at least 45 people needing hospital treatment.

SHENZHEN, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Huawei on Friday launched its first 5G mobile phone for commercial use in Shenzhen, home to its headquarters, as the telecom giant seeks to usher in the fast-speed 5G mobile world.

He Gang, head of Huawei's mobile phone division, said at the launching ceremony that Huawei Mate 20 X (5G) gained China's first 5G network access license.

The cavernous hall is usually filled with excited friends and relatives waiting to greet loved ones as they make their way out of one of the world's busiest airports.

HONG KONG, July 25 (Xinhua) -- A number of Southeast Asians nations have in recently months intercepted and sent back containers of solid waste that were shipped from developped countries including the United States and Canada.

Last Thursday, the Cambodian government said it would send 83 containers of plastic waste back to the United States and Canada. The rubbish-filled containers were discovered two days earlier at the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port.

BEIJING, July 26 (Xinhua) -- FedEx's claim of having misdelivered Huawei's packages to the United States disaccorded with facts, an investigation by Chinese authorities has found.

The investigation showed that FedEx was suspected of holding up more than 100 Huawei packages entering China.

Investigators also discovered clues to other violations of the company.

Chinese authorities will continue with its in-depth investigation on a comprehensive, objective and fair basis.

BEIJING, July 26 (Xinhua) -- An article by the China Society for Human Rights Studies (CSHRS) has exposed the hypocrisy of the United States on human rights as evidenced by its racial discrimination situation.

"For all its self-styled positioning as a defender of human rights, the United States has neither the will nor the ability to solve the severe problem of racial discrimination on its own territory. This exposes the institutional and structural defects of the United States," said the CSHRS article published on Friday.
