India: Congress seeks disqualification of four rebel MLAs

Bengaluru, Feb 11 (PTI) Cracking the whip, the Congress Monday sought disqualification of four rebel MLAs under the Anti-Defection law after they repeatedly remained defiant, skipping the assembly session and legislature party meetings.

The Congress petitioned the Assembly speaker Ramesh Kumar, seeking action against lawmakers Ramesh Jarkiholi, Umesh Jadhav, Mahesh Kumathali and B Nagendra weeks after giving them warnings to mend their ways and fall in line.

Bengaluru, Feb 8 (PTI) Cracking the whip, the Congress Legislature Party Friday decided to initiate action against four party rebel MLAs under the Anti-Defection Law, CLP leader Siddaramaiah said.

Briefing reporters after the CLP meet, Siddaramaiah said he would meet the Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar and urge him to take action against Ramesh Jarkiholi, Umesh Jadhav, Mahesh Kumathali and B Nagendra.

He said barring the four and J N Ganesh, all other lawmakers attended the CLP meet.

India: Mirage-2000 aircraft crashes, both pilots killed

Bengaluru, Feb 1 (PTI) A Mirage-2000 trainer aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed Friday at the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited Airport here killing both the pilots, a Defence official confirmed.

Though the pilots made a bid to eject, they were caught in the flames as the plane crashed with a huge explosion, the official added.

"This morning, a Mirage 2000 trainer aircraft on an acceptance sortie after upgrade crashed at the HAL Airport, Bengaluru," a Defence public relation officer said in a statement.

Bengaluru, Feb 1 (PTI): A Mirage 2000 aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed at the HAL Airport here Friday killing a pilot on the spot and leaving another critically injured, police said.

"The body of one of the pilots is completely charred while the second pilot is in a serious condition," a police officer at the HAL Airport police station said.

The HAL, in a statement, said the incident occurred at 10.30 am during a sortie.

BJP tells Cong it would not destabilise ruling coalition in Karnataka

Bengaluru, Jan 19 (PTI) The BJP would not destabilise Karnataka's ruling coalition, party state chief B S Yeddyurappa said Saturday, as the state remained in the grip of political unrest with the Congress on tenterhooks to keep its numbers intact.

As the Congress MLAs remained sequestered in a resort on the city outskirts fearing a poaching bid by the BJP, Yeddyurappa said he had asked all his party lawmakers camping at a hotel in Gurugram to return and tour the state's drought-hit areas.

India: Cong to seek explanation from 4 absentee MLAs

Bengaluru, Jan 18 (PTI) Congress will issue notices to four MLAs seeking explanation from them for their absence at the Congress Legislature Party meeting here Friday, CLP leader Siddaramaiah said.

Briefing reporters after the CLP meet, Siddaramaiah said after receiving the replies from the absentee lawmakers, the issue would be discussed with the party high command and state leaders before deciding on the next step.

India: BJP MLAs being kept in "confinement" at Gurugram hotel

Bengaluru, Jan 17 (PTI) Hitting out at the BJP for making "futile attempts" to destabilise his government, Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy Thursday accused the saffron party of keeping its MLAs in "confinement" at a hotel in Gurugram.

Grappling with the political turmoil triggered by reports that the BJP was luring Congress MLAs, Kumaraswamy rejected a charge by the saffron party that he was trying to poach their lawmakers.

Court closes sedition case against Amnesty India

Bengaluru, Jan 11 (PTI) A court here has closed a sedition case against the Amnesty India, pertaining to a petition filed by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) against the human rights body on August 15, 2016.

The complaint relates to an event the Amnesty India had held as part of a campaign to seek justice for alleged human rights violations in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

The First Information Report (FIR) in the case mentioned a number of offences, including sedition, unlawful assembly, rioting and promoting enmity.

Rs 14 lakh cash seized from clerk in Indian minister's office

Bengaluru, Jan 4 (PTI) A clerk working in the office ofthe Minister for Backward Classes Welfare was arrested here Friday after Rs 14 lakh in unaccounted cash was seized from him, police said.

Minister C Puttarangashetty who was not in the city alleged conspiracy behind the incident.

"We have arrested a person by name Mohan. We are interrogating him," Assistant Police Commissioner of Cubbon Park sub division Manjunath T said.

Acting on a tip-off, the police nabbed Mohan when he was taking the cash inside Vidhana Soudha, the state secretariat.
