India: Two brothers held for beating father to death

Thane (Maha), Nov27 (PTI) Two brothers allegedly beat their father to death over a domestic issue at Kharivali village in neighbouring Palghar district of Maharashtra, police said on Tuesday.

District rural police said the accused- Deepak Kaluram Jadhav and his brother Nilesh, both in their 20s- were arrested for the incident that took place on Monday night.

India: Maha farmer with Rs 27 lakh debt commits sucide

Nashik, Nov 26 : A farmer with a Rs 27 lakh debt died in a private hospital after allegedly consuming poison on November 11, a Nashik Rural police official said Monday.

Vithal Lahanu Jadhav (38) had taken loans of Rs 27 lakh from various credit societies for his grape orchard and was unable to repay them, the official added.

Jadhav was admitted to a local hospital in Niphad taluka in the district after his alleged suicide attempt on November 11 and died Sunday, the official informed.

India: Thane court sentences man to life in jail for killing wife

Thane, Nov 23 (PTI) A 25-year-old Navi Mumbai man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court for killing his wife in 2014.

Thane Principal District Judge V G Bisht Thursday also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on Nareshkumar Vishnu Sahu.

Additional Public Prosecutor Rekha Hirwale said Sahu and his wife Pooja, residents of Nageshwar Shiv Mandir locality in neighbouring Navi Mumbai's Sanpada area, had frequent quarrels over their one-year-old daughter.

India: 2264 women reported missing in Maha during 2013-18

Mumbai, Nov 21 (PTI) As many as 2264 women are reported missing in Maharashtra in the last five years, the state Legislative Assembly has been told.

In a written reply, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who holds Home portfolio, said the missing women include 298 minor girls.

A question was submitted by ruling Bhartiya Janata Party's (BJP's) Mangal Prabhat Lodha and others.

India: Explosion near ordnance depot in Maha, six killed

Wardha (Maha), Nov 20; PTI:  At least six people were killed and 10 others injured when an explosion took place near an ordnance depot in Maharashtra's Wardha district on Tuesday while ammunition was being unloaded, officials said.

The blast took place between 7.10 am and 7.15 am at the explosive demolition ground near the Central Ammunition Depot (CAD) at Pulgaon town, a Defence official said.

Around 10 to 15 contract labourers were at the site when the explosion occurred, Wardha's Additional Superintendent of Police Nikhil Pingle said.

Mumbai, Nov 18 (PTI) Former Union minister Arun Shourie Sunday said ex-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had a "great sense of remorse" for imposing Emergency, but the situation today is "graver" than it was in 1975-77.

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's juggernaut can be stopped in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls if the entire Opposition unites and follows the principle of one candidate against the BJP in every seat.

India: Two female Naxal terrorists killed in encounter with police

Gadchiroli (Maha), Nov 19 (PTI) Two women Naxals were gunned down in an encounter with police commandos in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district on Monday morning, a police
official said.

The gun battle broke out between the ultras and C-60 commandos, a specialised combat unit of the Gadchiroli police, in Nihalkay forest area under Dhanora taluka around 8.30 am, Gadchiroli's Additional Superintendent of Police Mahendra Pandit told PTI.

The commandos were on an anti-Naxal operation in the area since Sunday night, he said.

India: BJP neglecting farmers, youths: Hardik Patel

Jalna (Maha), Nov 17 (PTI) Patidar quota agitation leader Hardik Patel Saturday accused the BJP governments at the Centre and in Maharashtra of neglecting farmers and youths.

Patel, the face of the campaign of Gujarats Patidar community for reservation in government jobs and education, said the BJP is just playing politics instead of solving the problems of farmers and youths.

The 25-year-old Patidar leader was speaking at a public meeting organised by the Maratha Foundation at Kalyanrao Ghugre Stadium here in Central Maharashtra.

India: Shiv Sena questions PM Modi's silence over Rafale deal

Mumbai, Nov 15 (PTI) Questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence over the Rafale aircraft deal, the Shiv Sena Thursday said it has led to further "suspicion" among the people about something being amiss in it.

The Sena sarcastically said people will now believe there was no Rafale scam in the Defence Ministry like there was no irrigation scam in Maharashtra.
