USA: Biden and Harris receive briefing from national security experts

Washington, Nov 18 (PTI) US President-elect Joe Biden and vice president-elect Kamala Harris have received a briefing from the national security experts about the diplomatic, defence and intelligence challenges facing the country.

The US government agency that launches the transition process - the General Services Administration (GSA), headed by a Trump appointee - has not yet recognised Democrats Biden and Harris as winners of the November 3 presidential election.

Trump plans further reduction of troops in Afghanistan, Iraq

While Marksans Pharma is recalling diabetes drug, Zydus Pharmaceuticals (USA) is recalling drug which is used to reduce stomach acid.

Washington, Nov 13 (PTI) Outgoing US President Donald Trump's unsubstantiated claims of election fraud is one more step in delegitimising not just the incoming Biden administration, but democracy generally, his predecessor Barack Obama has said.

"I'm more troubled by the fact that other Republican officials who clearly know better are going along with this, are humouring him in this fashion," Obama told CBS News in an interview.

President-elect Joe Biden names Ron Klain as White House Chief of Staff

Washington, Nov 12 (PTI) US President-elect Joe Biden on Wednesday announced the appointment of Ron Klain, his longtime aide, as White House Chief of Staff.

In this capacity, Klain will oversee the Executive Office of the President and serve as a senior advisor.

In addition to supporting the president-elect, Klain will work to build a diverse, experienced and talented team to help President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris meet the urgent challenges facing the country, a media release said.

USA: Few legal wins so far as Trump team hunts for proof of fraud

Philadelphia (US), Nov 12 (AP/PTI) During a Pennsylvania court hearing this week on one of the many election lawsuits brought by President Donald Trump, a judge asked a campaign lawyer whether he had found any signs of fraud from among the 592 ballots challenged.

The answer was no.

Accusing people of fraud is a pretty big step, said the lawyer, Jonathan Goldstein. We're all just trying to get an election done.

Indian-American named Chief of Staff to Acting US Defence Secretary

Washington, Nov 11 (PTI) Indian-American Kash Patel has been named as the Chief of Staff to the Acting US Defence Secretary Chris Miller, the Pentagon has announced.

The new appointment from the Pentagon comes a day after Trump fired Defence Secretary Mark Esper and designated the National Counter Terrorism Center Director, Chris Miller, as the Acting Secretary of Defence.

USA: Refusing to concede, Trump blocks cooperation on transition

Washington, Nov 10 (AP/PTI) The Trump administration threw the presidential transition into tumult on Monday, Attorney General William Barr authorising the Justice Department to probe allegations of voter fraud and President Donald Trump firing the Pentagon chief and blocking government officials from cooperating with President-elect Joe Biden's team.

Despite little evidence of fraud, Barr signed off on investigations into the unsubstantiated claims made repeatedly by Trump.
