Yemen’s Houthi Rebels Launch 10 Missiles Towards Saudi Airport

SANAA, Yemen, Aug 26 (NNN-SABA) – Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed that they fired 10 missiles towards Saudi Arabia’s Jizan airport on Sunday evening, the group’s military spokesman said.

A salvo of 10 Badr-1 ballistic missiles were launched towards Jizan Regional Airport, said Yahya Sarea, in a brief statement.

“The missiles targeted military aircraft and Apache helicopters inside Jizan airport,” he added.

UN Says 1,350 Refugees Evacuated From Libya In 2019

TRIPOLI, Libya, Aug 26 (NNN-AGENCIES) – The UN Higher Commission of Refugees (UNHCR), said on Sunday, that, 1,350 refugees have been evacuated from Libya, to third countries in 2019.

On Saturday, “31 refugees left … with hopes to start a new chapter of their lives,” it added.

Because of the insecurity and chaos, Libya is a preferred point of departure for illegal immigrants, wanting to cross the Mediterranean to reach Europe, many of whom drown on the way.

Palestine Slams U.S. For Deleting Its Name From List Of Countries

RAMALLAH, Palestine, Aug 26 (NNN-WAFA) – Palestine slammed the United States for deleting the name of Palestine from its list of countries and states.

Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman of the Palestinian presidency, said, in an official press statement that, the decision represents “unprecedented deterioration in the American foreign policy.”

“This step again shows the U.S. government is not only biased towards the Israeli occupation, but is fully aligned with the plans of the extremist Israeli right-wing,” Rudeineh added.

Another Russian S-400 battery headed to Turkey beginning Tuesday: Anadolu

ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Turkey is to accept delivery of a second battery of Russian S-400 missile defenses beginning on Tuesday, Defence Minister Hulusi Akar said on Monday according to state-owned Anadolu news agency.

The initial parts of the system, which Washington says are not compatible with NATO defenses, were delivered to Ankara in July despite warnings about possible U.S. sanctions over the purchase.

Iranian tanker no longer has Turkey destination: shipping data

ISTANBUL (Reuters) - An Iranian tanker at the center of a confrontation between Washington and Tehran is no longer recorded as heading for Turkey, Refinitiv Eikon shipping data showed on Monday, having switched to a Turkish destination at the weekend.

The vessel, fully laden with oil, had previously been heading to the port of Kalamata in southern Greece but Greece had said it would not offer any facilities to the tanker.

Shipping data on Saturday had then indicated the vessel was to dock at the southern Turkish port of Mersin on Aug. 31.

Libya's east-based army says clashes kill 12 gov't troops near Gharyan

TRIPOLI, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Libya's east-based army said on Sunday that 12 troops of the rival UN-backed government were killed and more than 20 others injured in violent clashes near the city of Gharyan, some 80 km south of the capital Tripoli.

Those who were killed include a senior military commander and two Islamic State (IS) suspects, the army's information office said in a statement.

The statement also said the army took control of a position of the UN-backed government's forces near Gharyan.

Saudi Arabia, UAE vow to back Yemen war effort amid cracks

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates pledged Monday to keep their floundering coalition war against Yemen’s Houthi rebels together after an Emirati troop pullout and the rise of the southern separatists they supported.

The joint communique came as the Houthis launched at least six ballistic missiles and two drone attacks into Saudi Arabia, keeping up its pressure on the kingdom as online infighting between the Emirati and Saudi intelligentsia exposed growing cracks between the usually lockstep oil-rich nations.

Iran's Zarif lands in France's Biarritz, talks with U.S. not on agenda

DUBAI (Reuters) - Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who landed in Biarritz on Sunday, has no plans to hold talks with U.S. President Donald Trump or any member of the U.S. delegation who have attended the G7 meeting in the French town.

“Zarif will convey the Iranian leadership’s response to French President Emmanuel Macron’s proposal that is aimed to save Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal,” a senior Iranian official told Reuters.
