Demonstrations will continue in Sudan against army chief, activists say

07 Dec 2021; MEMO: The Sudanese Professionals Association said yesterday that demonstrations against the actions of army chief, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, will continue throughout December, Anadolu reported.

"The people's revolution will continue until the uprooting of the putschists and their regime, and the establishment of a full transitional civil authority," the association which leads the protest movement said in a statement.

Iran accuses France of 'destabilising' region by selling arms to Gulf

07 Dec 2021; MEMO: Iran yesterday accused France of "destabilising" the region by selling weapons to rival Gulf countries, three days after Paris signed a multi-billion-dollar contract with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the sale of 80 Rafale fighter jets.

"We must not ignore France's role in destabilising the region," Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh told a news conference.

Kuwait bans entry of ships carrying goods to and from Israel

05 Dec 2021; MEMO: Kuwait has issued a decree banning the entry of commercial vessels carrying goods to and from Israel from its territorial waters.

The Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology, Rana Al-Faris, announced the ban yesterday.

UN Human Rights Office 'shocked' by 'extra-judicial' killing of Palestinian youth

The UN Human Rights Office said on Saturday night that it was "shocked" by the "extra-judicial" killing of Palestinian youth Mohammad Salimah by Israeli border police.

"The UN Human Rights Office is shocked by the apparent extra-judicial execution of Mohammad Shawkat Sleemah today at Damascus Gate in Jerusalem," a statement posted on the office's Facebook page said.

Tunisia president dismisses his country's consul in Paris, Milan

06 Dec 2021; MEMO: Tunisian President Kais Saied yesterday dismissed his country's consuls in the cities of Paris and Milan and ordered a "financial and administrative audit" at the two consulates.

In a statement the presidency said Saied instructed Paris' Consul General Taher Arbaoui be replaced with Ridha Gharsallaoui, and Milan's Consul General Adel Bin Abdullah with Khalil Jendoubi.

Since 24 November, Saied has dismissed more than 20 diplomats in many countries, without providing reasons.

Israel: Our policy towards Iran has been nothing but a failure: Ex-PM

06 Dec 2021; MEMO: Israel's policy towards Iran since the signing of the nuclear deal in 2015 has been nothing but a failure, former Prime Minister and Defence Minister Ehud Barak said yesterday.

In an article published by Ynet News, Barak said: "Prime Minister Naftali Bennett was right when he addressed the unbearable gap between the rhetoric of the former government led by Benjamin Netanyahu and its actions."

Israel gives 'full backing' to soldiers who killed wounded Palestinian

06 Dec 2021; MEMO: Top Israeli occupation officials, including Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, yesterday hailed the Israeli police border officers who killed at point blank range a wounded Palestinian youth.

Palestinian youth Mohammad Salimah, 25, was shot dead after wounding an Israeli at Jerusalem's Damascus Gate on Saturday.

Israeli newspaper the Jerusalem Post reported that the killing of the motionless Palestinian had been described as a "war crime".

UAE official says French Rafale planes no substitute for US fighters

06 Dec 2021; MEMO: Commander of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Air Force, Major General Staff Pilot Ibrahim Nasser Al-Alawi said yesterday that the deal signed with France to purchase 80 Rafale combat aircraft will not replace the Emirates' talks to acquire F-35 jets from the US.

Saudi crown prince will start tour of Gulf region on Monday - Al Arabiya

DUBAI, Dec 6 (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia's de facto ruler Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman will start a tour of Gulf Arab states on Monday ahead of an annual Gulf summit this month that comes amid crucial talks aimed at salvaging a nuclear pact between Iran and the West.

Prince Mohammed will visit Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait, Saudi-owned Al Arabiya television reported. Oman will be the first leg of the tour.
