Unidentified planes target Iran sites in eastern Syria

12 Oct 2021; MEMO: Unidentified drones targeted sites of militant groups affiliated with Iran in the city of Al-Bukamal in the countryside of Deir Ez-Zor governorate, eastern Syria, yesterday.

Local sources told Anadolu that the "unidentified" drones targeted at least three sites belonging to Iranian groups in the city of Al-Bukamal on the Syrian-Iraqi border, noting that the bombing caused seven explosions in the area.

Bennett reveals plan to bring 0.5m Jews to Israel

12 Oct 2021; MEMO: Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett yesterday revealed plans to bring 500,000 Jewish immigrants from the US, South America and France to Israel, local media reported.

Speaking at a Ynet conference marking immigration and absorption week, Bennett said: "It is doubtful whether there are more important issues for our future and the essence of both Israel and Israeli society than the subject of Jewish immigration."

Egypt number one Middle East country in undercounting COVID-19 deaths

12 Oct 2021; MEMO: Egypt ranks fifth worldwide in underreporting coronavirus and first in the Middle East, according to a report published by the World Bank.

According to the report, Egypt's ratio of reported deaths to excess mortality was 13.1 in the first year of the pandemic.

Analysts and doctors in Egypt have, since the start of the pandemic, accused Egypt of undercounting the real figures of deaths and infection rate, but in response have faced punitive action including jail sentences.

Venezuela and Turkey Sign Three Cooperation Agreements

ANKARA, Oct 11 (NNN-TELESUR) — Venezuela’s Foreign Affairs Minister Felix Plasencia has signed three cooperation agreements with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu to strengthen bilateral ties.

The agreements are connected with the development of Turkey’s Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), Venezuela’s Simon Bolivar Institute for Peace and Solidarity, and the Center for Strategic Research belonging to the Turkish Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Iran: Verifying the lifting of US sanctions is a top issue in nuclear talks

11 Oct 2021; MEMO: A main concern of Iran in any talks to rescue the 2015 nuclear deal would be around ways to verify the lifting of US sanctions, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said on Saturday, reported Reuters.

The talks, which aim to bring Washington and Tehran back into compliance with the 2015 nuclear pact aimed at curbing the Iranian enrichment programme, were adjourned in June after hardline cleric Ebrahim Raisi was elected Iran's president.

Lebanon: Country-wide blackout will last for several days

11 Oct 2021; MEMO: Lebanon has no centrally generated electricity after fuel shortages forced its two largest power stations to shut down, a government official told Reuters on Saturday.

"The Lebanese power network completely stopped working at noon today, and it is unlikely that it will work until next Monday, or for several days," the official said.
