Beijing urges New Delhi to provide fair business environment for Chinese companies

BEIJING, May 9 (APP): China on Monday urged Indian authorities to provide a fair, just and non-discriminatory business environment for its companies after Chinese smart phone maker Xiaomi's top executives faced threats of physical violence and coercion.

Mongolia Exports 3.8 Million Tonnes Of Coal In First Four Months

ULAN BATOR, May 9 (NNN-XINHUA) – Mongolia exported a total of 3.8 million tonnes of coal in the first four months of this year, down 48 percent year on year, Mongolian Customs General Administration said today.

The significant decrease is related to border restrictions, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it said.

Coal is Mongolia’s main export commodity.

Mongolia has planned to export at least 36 million tonnes of coal in 2022, according to the authority.

China's foreign trade up 7.9 percent in first four months

BEIJING, May 9 (Xinhua) -- China's total imports and exports expanded 7.9 percent year on year to 12.58 trillion yuan in the first four months of 2022, official data showed Monday.

In U.S. dollar terms, total foreign trade came in at 1.98 trillion U.S. dollars in the period, up 10.1 percent year on year, according to the General Administration of Customs.

Exports grew 10.3 percent year on year to 6.97 trillion yuan, while imports rose 5 percent to 5.61 trillion yuan in the January-April period, leading to a trade surplus of 1.36 trillion yuan, the data showed.

Shanghai tightens lockdown despite falling COVID cases

BEIJING (AP) — Authorities in Shanghai have again tightened anti-virus restrictions, just as the city was emerging from a month of strict lockdown due to a COVID-19 outbreak.

Notices issued in several districts said residents were ordered to stay home and are barred from receiving nonessential deliveries as part of a “quiet period” lasting at least until Wednesday. The tightened measures could be extended depending on the results of mass testing, the notices said.

China prepares to launch Tianzhou-4 cargo spacecraft

WENCHANG, Hainan,May 7 (Xinhua/APP): The combination of the Tianzhou-4 cargo spacecraft and a Long March-7 Y5 carrier rocket has been transferred to the launching area of the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site, the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) said Saturday.

The CMSA said the Tianzhou-4 cargo spacecraft will be launched in the near future at an appropriate time.

The facilities and equipment at the launch site are in good condition, and various pre-launch function checks and joint tests will be carried out as planned, the CMSA added.

Beijing loyalist John Lee elected as Hong Kong’s next leader

HONG KONG (AP) — John Lee was elected as Hong Kong’s next leader Sunday, after winning over 99% of votes cast by a largely pro-Beijing election committee.

Lee received 1,416 votes in the chief executive election, far exceeding the 751 votes he needed to win and the highest support ever for the city’s top leadership position. The Election Committee’s nearly 1,500 members cast their votes in a secret ballot Sunday morning.

Search Continues In Northern Japan For 12 Missing After Tour Boat Sinking

TOKYO, May 7 (NNN-NHK) – The Japan Coast Guard and Self-Defence Forces, continued searching for those unaccounted for, in a tour boat sinking accident two weeks ago, local media reported yesterday.

The 19-tonne tour boat, Kazu I, was carrying 26 people, including its crew, when it went missing off the Shiretoko Peninsula, in Japan’s northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido on Apr 23, after making a distress call saying it was taking on water in rough seas, leaving 14 dead and 12 missing.

Vietnam’s Textiles, Garments Export Up 21.6 Percent In Past Four Months

HANOI, May 7 (NNN-VNA) – Vietnam earned nearly 11.8 billion U.S. dollars from exporting textiles and garments, in the first four months of this year, up 21.6 percent from the same period last year, according to the country’s Ministry of Industry and Trade yesterday.

In Apr alone, Vietnam’s textile and garment export rose 25.4 percent, year on year, to around 3.1 billion dollars.

The Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association, estimated that the country would reap 42 to 43.5 billion dollars from exporting textiles and garments this year.
