India: Dalai Lama to address Global Buddhist meet in Aurangabad

Aurangabad, Nov 20 (PTI) Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, will deliver two lectures at the three-day Global Buddhist Congregation to be held in Aurangabad from Friday.

The event will take place between November 22 and 24.

"The Dalai Lama will be in Aurangabad for two days and will deliver two sessions at the Buddhist Congregation," monk Sadanand Mahasthivir Mahathero, president of All India Bhikkhu Sangh, told reporters here on Wednesday.

India: Businessman kills self after failing to pay GST

Aurangabad, Nov 20 (PTI) An entrepreneur, owning a small metal polishing unit in Waluj Industrial area, committed suicide, after failing to pay Goods and Services Tax (GST), police said on Wednesday.

Vishnu Rambhau Kalavane (53) hanged himself from the ceiling with a saree at his home in Pandharpur area on Tuesday, an official said.

India: Lata Mangeshkar stable, still in ICU

Mumbai, Nov 19 (PTI) Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar, admitted to hospital with breathing problems last week, is stable and showing "signs of improvement" but continues to be in the ICU, hospital sources said on Tuesday.

Mangeshkar, 90, has been admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital.

"She is stable. She is still in the ICU. She is showing signs of improvement. We request you to maintain the family's privacy," a hospital insider told PTI.

India: No bidders for Iqbal Mirchi's two flats in Mumbai

Mumbai, Nov 19 (PTI) The auction of two plush properties of late gangster and drug trafficker Iqbal Mirchi here was cancelled on Tuesday due to lack of proper bids, an official said.

The Ministry of Finance's office did not got proper bids for the two flats, leading to cancellation of their auction, he said.

India: Aamir Khan posts first look from 'Laal Singh Chaddha'

Mumbai, Nov 18 (PTI) Superstar Aamir Khan on Monday shared his first look from the much-awaited film "Laal Singh Chaddha".

An official remake of Tom Hanks' 1994 feature "Forrest Gump", the film is being directed by Advait Chandan. Kareena Kapoor Khan is playing the female lead.

Aamir took to social media to post the first look poster from the film that introduces him as the titular character.

India: Runaway woman from Punjab raped in Mumbai

Mumbai, Nov 17 (PTI) An 18-year-old woman, who had run away from her home in Punjab, was allegedly raped by a man at Kamathipura in Mumbai on the pretext of helping her, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place on November 9 and the accused, identified as Akhtar Riyazuddin Qureshi (45), was arrested the next day, police said.

India: Ayodhya judgment flawed, but we need to move on: Sinha

Mumbai, Nov 17 (PTI) Former BJP leader Yashwant Sinha on Sunday criticised the Supreme Court's judgment in the Ayodhya issue, but said the Muslim community should accept it.

Sinha was speaking at the Mumbai Lit Fest here.

Asked about his views about the historical verdict, he said, "The SC judgment is a faulty judgment, it is full of flaws, but I will still ask the Muslim community to accept the judgment and put the whole thing behind us.

Nagpur/Mumbai, Nov 15 (PTI) The first-ever Shiv Sena- NCP-Congress alliance in Maharashtra appears to be taking definitive shape with Sharad Pawar on Friday announcing the prospective government will complete five-year term and provide a development-oriented administration.

The three-party coalition, a new experiment in Maharashtra involving outfits with diverse ideologies, will be led by the Sena, leaders in the Uddhav Thackeray-party and the NCP said, settling the contentious leadership issue that resulted in the unraveling of the saffron alliance.

India: Sena-NCP-Congress government will complete 5-year term: Pawar

Nagpur, Nov 15 (PTI) NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Friday said a Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress government will be formed and it will complete five-year term as he ruled out the possibility of mid-term polls in Maharashtra which is currently under Presidents rule.

He said the three parties want to form a stable government which will be development-oriented.

There is no possibility of mid-term polls. This government will be formed and it will complete five years. We all will ensure this government runs for five years, Pawar told reporters here.

India: President's rule in Maha a 'scripted act', alleges Sena

Mumbai, Nov 14 (PTI) The Shiv Sena on Thursday alleged that imposition of President's rule in Maharashtra was a "scripted act" and took a jibe at the governor, saying he has now given parties six months to form government.

It also said that former state chief minister Devendra Fadnavis is shedding "crocodile tears" over the imposition of President's rule as power is still indirectly in the hands of the BJP.
