India: Uddhav Thackeray formally takes charge as Maha CM

Mumbai, Nov 29 (PTI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray formally took charge of his office here on Friday afternoon.

He took charge shortly after 2 pm, entering the sixth floor office of the CM, outside which a plate bearing the name 'Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray' was put up.

When he reached Mantralaya, he paid floral tributes to the portrait of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the building.

India: Non-disclosure of cases: summons delivered to Fadnavis

Nagpur, Nov 28 (PTI) Nagpur Police on Thursday delivered a summons, issued by a local court to former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, in connection with a case where he is accused of concealing information about two criminal matters against him in election affidavit.

The summons was delivered at Fadnavis's house here, said an official of Sadar Police Station.

The development came on the day a new Shiv Sena-led government was sworn in in Maharashtra.

India: Murder case: Court acquits 3, asks investigator to pay Re 1 compensation

Thane, Nov 26 (PTI) A court here in Maharashtra has acquitted three persons in a 2007 case of killing a person and asked the investigating officer to pay Re 1 from his salary as compensation to each of those set free.

District Judge S B Bahalkar, in his order issued earlier this month, held the investigating officer (IO), R B More, responsible for falsely implicating the three persons in the case.

India: Vendor killed for not reducing price of peas

Mumbai, Nov 26 (PTI) Two men have been arrested for allegedly killing a vegetable vendor over the price of green peas in the eastern suburb of Mankhurd, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Monday afternoon when Abhishek Domal and his colleague Sahil Karade allegedly assaulted Ram Chilaan Yadav at Saathe Nagar, an official said.

India: 285 members take oath at Maha Assembly's special session

Mumbai, Nov 27 (PTI) A special session of the 14th Maharashtra Legislative Assembly was held here on Wednesday where oath was administered to 285 newly-elected members.

In the 288-member House, two members - Sudhir Mungantiwar (BJP) and Devendra Bhuyar (Swabhimani Paksh) - did not take oath on Wednesday, a Vidhan Bhavan official said.

Pro tem Speaker Kalidas Kolambkar took oath on Tuesday after being appointed to the post by Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari.

Mumbai, Nov 25, GANASHAKTI: Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Monday claimed BJP leaders will go crazy if they remain without power.

Talking to reporters, Raut also said mental health clinics will be formed in various parts of Maharashtra for "such people" after the Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress combine comes to power in the state.

"The BJP leaders will go crazy if they are thrown out of power. They will lose their mental balance, as we are going to prove our majority during the floor test," Raut claimed.

Mumbai, Nov 24 (PTI) The BJP on Sunday expressed confidence that Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will prove his government's majority in the state Assembly, claiming he has the support of more than 170 MLAs.

Talking to reporters here, BJP leader Ashish Shelar said Fadnavis will provide a stable and strong government.
