(Reuters) - Eight people were killed when a three-story building in the southern Polish ski resort of Szczyrk collapsed on Wednesday following a gas explosion, local authorities said on Thursday.

The bodies of four children and four adults, most likely from two families, have been found in the rubble, authorities said.

WARSAW (Reuters) - French President Emmanuel Macron’s critical remarks about NATO were “dangerous”, Poland’s Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said in an interview published on Sunday evening by the Financial Times.

Macron told The Economist last week that NATO was experiencing “brain death”, citing a lack of coordination and U.S. unpredictability under President Donald Trump. The French leader also expressed doubt about the U.S.-led alliance’s security maxim that an attack on one ally would be treated as an attack on all.

WARSAW, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced the new structure of the government on Friday night, following the victory of governing Law and Justice (PiS) in parliamentary elections on Oct. 13.

"I am convinced this will be a very effective, very good team," Morawiecki said upon announcing the new government at a press conference.

"We want to continue with all our promises, our program. In the spirit of trustworthiness, we will accomplish what we have said we would do," he added.

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Poland’s conservative governing Law and Justice party won the most votes in Sunday’s election in the deeply divided nation and appeared, according to an exit poll, to have secured a comfortable majority in parliament to govern for four more years.

The exit poll, conducted by the research firm Ipsos, projected that Law and Justice won 43.6% of the votes. That would translate into 239 seats, a majority in the 460-seat lower house of parliament.

WARSAW (Reuters) - It is necessary to remain alert to Russian interference in elections around the world, United States Vice President Michael Pence said on Monday in Warsaw.

“With its efforts to meddle in elections across Europe and around the world now is the time for us to remain vigilant about the intentions and the actions being taken by Russia,” Pence said during the conference with Polish President Andrzej Duda.

WARSAW (Reuters) - President Andrzej Duda said on Saturday that Poland saw a need to maintain Western sanctions against Russia over its 2014 annexation of the Crimea region from Ukraine.

He also said Ukraine should have closer relations with the European Union and the NATO military alliance.

The EU and the United States have both imposed sanctions on Russia over its role in the Ukraine conflict.

WARSAW, July 5. /TASS/: A court in Poland has approved the extradition of Vyacheslav Vishnevsky, a former owner of the Zimnyaya Vishnya shopping mall in Russia’s Siberian city of Kemerovo, where 60 people died in fire in 2018.

"Concerning the case of Vyacheslav V. [in line with the Polish law, the suspect’s second name must not be disclosed], we inform that the District Court of Warsaw has issued a ruling on legal permissibility of the wanted person’s extradition to the Russian Federation," the Warsaw District Court’s press service said on Friday.
