SpaceX, NASA tight-lipped on cause of crew capsule incident

25 Apr 2019; AFP: NASA and SpaceX remained tight-lipped Thursday about what caused a mysterious but apparently serious incident last weekend during engine tests on the Crew Dragon capsule designed to carry US astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS) later this year.

SpaceX said that an "anomaly" had occurred during Saturday's ground tests at Cape Canaveral in Florida.

India: Cell-based meat programme gets Central govt funding

Hyderabad, Apr 25 (PTI) The Central government has decided to fund the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) here and the National Research Centre on Meat for research on cell-based meat.

"Now, the government has decided to support this clean meat programme through a project. It's a short-term project.

It will be implemented jointly by CCMB and NRC which is an ICAR institute," CCMB director Rakesh Mishra told reporters here Thursday.

High-calorie food causes more weight gain during stress: study

WASHINGTON, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Researchers found that eating high-calorie diet under stress could result in more weight gain than eating the same diet in a stress-free condition.

The study published on Thursday in the journal Cell Metabolism revealed a molecular pathway in the brain, controlled by insulin, which drives the additional weight gain under stress.

World's highest highway tunnel open to traffic in Tibet

LHASA, April 26 (Xinhua) -- The world's highest highway tunnel was open to traffic on Friday at an altitude of over 4,750 meters above sea level in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region.

The two-way tunnel is over 5.7 km long, which is a part of the 400-km highway linking the regional capital of Lhasa with Nyingchi in the southeast of Tibet.

Construction of the tunnel started in 2015 on the 5,018-meter-high Mila Mountain, and it was completed on Monday, helping shorten the 18-km distance over the mountain to 5.7 km.

Don't expose babies to electronic screens, says WHO

Infants less than a year old should not be exposed to electronic screens, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Wednesday.

Research and development for Russia's S-500 system nears completion

GORKI, April 24. /TASS/. Research and development for the S-500 air defense system is in the final phase, Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov told the media on Wednesday.

"I’m talking about the completion of research and development and the subsequent beginning of batch production. I can now say that the R&D work is about to be completed," Manturov said.

Earlier, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said the system would begin to be provided for the armed forces in 2020. The Aerospace Force Academy in Tver has been training operators for it since 2017.

British PM approves Huawei role in 5G network

24 Apr 2019; AFP: British Prime Minister Theresa May has given the go-ahead for China's Huawei to help build a 5G network, shrugging off security warnings from senior ministers and Washington, the Daily Telegraph reported Wednesday.

The country's National Security Council, which is chaired by May, agreed Tuesday to allow the Chinese technology giant limited access to build "non-core" infrastructure such as antennas, the report said.

NASA's InSight lander detects 1st likely Mars' earthquake

LOS ANGELES, April 23 (Xinhua) -- NASA's Mars InSight lander has measured and recorded for the first time ever a likely "marsquake," said a release of NASA on Tuesday.

The faint seismic signal, detected by the lander's Seismic Experiment for Interior Structure (SEIS) instrument, was recorded on April 6, the lander's 128th Martian day.

This is the first recorded trembling that appears to have come from inside the planet, as opposed to being caused by forces above the surface, such as wind, according to NASA.

Brain-controlled system Neurochat begins to be batch-produced in Russia

paceX suffers serious setback with crew capsule accident

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — SpaceX has suffered a serious setback in its effort to launch NASA astronauts into orbit this year, with the fiery loss of its first crew capsule during testing.

Over the weekend, the company’s recently flown Dragon crew capsule was engulfed in smoke and flames on an engine test stand at Cape Canaveral. SpaceX was testing the Dragon’s abort thrusters when Saturday’s accident occurred.

The company said the test area was clear and no one was injured.
