Trump signs order on police reform, doesn’t mention racism

WASHINGTON (AP) — Following weeks of national protests since the death of George Floyd, President Donald Trump signed an executive order Tuesday that he said would encourage better police practices. But he made no mention of the roiling national debate over racism spawned by police killings of black men and women.

UN to hold 3 elections Wednesday including new Security Council members

UNITED NATIONS, Jun 16 (APP): The UN General Assembly is set to vote on Wednesday to elect five states to two-year terms on the Security Council, beginning on January 1, 2021.

Simultaneously, the 193-member Assembly will be electing new members of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and the president of its 75th session, which begins in September.

The Security Council has five permanent members — the United States, Russia, China, Britain and France — and 10 nine-non-permanent members elected by the General Assembly, with five members elected every year.

UN chief urges India to ‘immediately end’ use of torture, pellet guns against children in Kashmir

UNITED NATIONS, Jun 16 (APP): UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has voiced deep concern over the continued use by the Indian security forces in occupied Jammu and Kashmir of torture and pellet guns against children as well as their illegal detentions, and called on New Delhi to “immediately end” such practices.

The call was made by Guterres in the annual report on Children and Armed Conflict, which was launched on Monday by his Special Representative on the subject, Virginia Gamba.

UN: 50,000 children could die in MENA due to disruption of health services

US reducing number of troops in Germany to 25K, confirms Trump

Washington, Jun 16 (PTI) The United States will reduce its troop strength in Germany from the nearly 52,000 at present to 25,000, President Donald Trump has said here.

In an interaction with reporters at the White House on Monday, Trump attributed the move to high costs and Germany being "delinquent" in its payment to NATO.

National Pride In U.S. Falls To Record Low: Gallup

WASHINGTON, June 16 (NNN-XINHUA) – American pride continued its downward trajectory, reaching the lowest point in two decades, according to a Gallup survey released on Monday.

A majority of adults, 63 percent, still said, in the new poll, that, they are either “extremely” or “very” proud to be Americans.

However, that’s a 7-point dip from last year and the lowest figure recorded in the 20 years since Gallup first started asking the question.

Trump to sign executive order on police reform amid intensifying outcry

WASHINGTON, June 15 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that he will sign an executive order on police reform on Tuesday.

"The overall goal is we want law and order and we want it done fairly, justly. We want it done safely," Trump told reporters at the White House.

"This is about law and order, but it's about justice also," he said.
